Jack Rodrique? Shawn wouldn't play him until a PP, guy could put a puck thru the glass with his slap shot though.

One of my favorite games at the Alfond was when he was coming back from a hand or wrist injury and Maine got a late PP in a rout so Shawn sent him out to try things out. The first slapper he took rang off one of the pipes in the first row of the balcony.

Maine won the ensuing faceoff in the neutral zone, worked the puck into the zone, got set up, and teed up Rodrigue for another blast. As he started to wind up, every single person in the balcony shouted "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018, reds last stand part 2

Yes. Here is what I said before(which should be considered great)...

And, again, my point was that these are not national stats, they are stats vs. the worst HEA conference in its history, maybe? (For example, Tralmaks is the 9th scoring Freshman in the nation, and #108 overall, if my quick scan is accurate...) In that light, I definitely won't take the time to attempt to vet your other claims. But, if you're going to post statistical evidence of how great these classes are, put it in the proper context, because it's easily researched.

Anyway, I don't take much of anything very personally, so no big. But you sound as biased as though you have a son on the team. You could attempt to be a little more objective.

Swayman is very good. Maine is #10 in the country at scoring goals. The younger classes are a real upgrade over what Red has brought-in in his first two classes. We can agree on those facts... But, the PK is nearly the worst in the nation, the D is poorly-coached, etc. and there's still a long way to go.

I'd love to see this late improvement continue. The Warden and I will have a big bowl of popcorn and maybe a couple of Genesee bocks ready for the MC game on Friday. I'm predicting a sweep.

i remember seeing that one. Jacques' slappa made people hit the deck on the road, too. You never knew where that thing would end-up.

In this day of great crafts to be had everywhere, I don't bother with Genny much anymore, but I do have a soft spot in my heart for the bock. As you know, it's only available for a few weeks. Saw it today, $8.99 for a 12-pack. I can Fed Ex one to you for a nominal fee. :p

Playing around on the CHN PairWise predictor, if Maine had just won one of those two games against Duluth at Alfond back in October, especially the first where they lost 2-1 and played well enough to win, they’d be 16th on the pairwise and firmly on the bubble right now instead of 21st.

Simon Danis-Pepin, the human pylon and actual Frenchman. Rodrigue was from Cow Hampshire.

The lower PWR echelon looks pretty volatile due to all the parity this year. While I admit that it's a completely unrealistic notion at this point, isn't there a "perfect storm" scenario that would result in Maine garnering a bid?

(Thanks in advance to you and tipcapnews. :D )

It isn't a perfect storm. If Maine wins the games it should, pulls off two with BC then get to Boston they might get in. Do those things and win Friday and that should be enough even with a loss on Saturday. But they have to beat MC twice and @UNH first. A win @PC would be nice, but they haven't won in Providence since the dinosaurs.

They have a chance and that's more then we could say the last several years....in the long run it's a very/very outside chance....but all in all having Swayman the future has a better look on it then it did the 1st of October of this season...granted Hockey East is a bit lean this year, but then that's hockey and the cards everyone has been dealt.

That's the data I was looking for. Thanks for doing the heavy lifting.

Having any kind of shot at this late date makes for a lot more reasons to watch the games. I think Maine is perfectly capable of winning any given game vs. a depleted HE, even if a major run at the PW is very unlikely.

We even might reconsider our decision to blow-off going to Chestnut Hill, who knows!

Simon was slow a-foot, but wasn't he like 6' 7"? His reach with the poke-check made up for his lack of skating, sometimes.

He came in too early{age wise}, and was more hype then anything. He was big but played small. {imo}

You actually had a smiley face. For me it is a win. ;)

I think he got a lot of hype because of his age but just wasn’t that great of player. He didn’t do much after he left Maine which says a lot.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2017-2018, reds last stand part 2

Come on, must we fight again? We all want to see Maine win. And honestly this is the second time Blackl has picked a fight with Fishman...

Sorry, but I wont stop. I want optimism. This team is great and getting better. I lived through that hell and I see promise. I can't and will never apologize for liking how our program goes. I want Maine to go to the garden again. I understand I get mad at negativity, and for that I am sorry. But we have such a great team now. Let's be positive and go win something. Let's go to the garden and f up hockey east.

My $0.02

I will apologize again. But can't you please be positive. I am not a player parent.

But I wish you could look a little ahead and see promise. This is my wish.

I understand I got out of line, but like an at home defensemen I protect net front.

Having said this, the team needs to make a statement at home this weekend. When I read why they came to Maine, they say they love atmosphere and playing in front of that crowd.

Well win the crowd. Win and play for them as you did when you beat BU on their ice.

Don't play down, be champions if you want the best. Goooooooo!

:D
