Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

It was obvious Tim was taking this team nowhere and its getting to the point where Red may be heading in that direction also??? The penalty thing is crazy. Red says he will sit players but as an example, Cochrane takes 3 minors at UHN and then plays Saturday where he takes another in the 1st period. Not sure how thats sitting someone?
5 on 5 this team isn't great but they hold there own. Special team play is lacking.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

I too thought the officiating was unusually poor. A tackle and elbow chop to the back of fossiers head, no call. Was it Cochrane, lost his stick and went to the corner to tie up the puck and unh, unh player big holding embellishment, Maine penalty. Just a couple examples.

I continue to like holways play and he is improving every week. Very composed with the puck and is faster than what he appears.

Anyone know where the post game coach interviews might be posted. I'd like to hear red grunt and groan. I keep asking hoping someone may find them.

I agree with you. Kimball Union is off to another fine start (5-0-0). He has 10 seniors, 9 of which are listed as top players on the elite prospect web site.

It appears at this point, that Gendron continues to play "smashmouth" hockey in a league that will not condone it.

Red is a relic of a bygone era, yes...

And it's a fact that Whitehead never had a 4-year skid the likes of what we've seen from Gendron. As much as I wanted Tim gone down the stretch of his tenure, Red has been even worse. That's a fact. He took the listing ship and rammed it into a reef.

They can't even post good game highlights, don't ask for crazy things.

😕
Yup I know. But someone who goes records them and you'd think at least post it to u tube. Just goes to show the level of enthusiasm. WMEB campus radio used to but I guess when that one guy graduated no one picked up the effort. Millennials!!!

Always like the way you put things out and I usually laugh...but this time you are dead on but it really isn't much to laugh about...seeing the Program sink more and "if" or "when" they have to change then we can only expect another long process...scary and maddening mixed into one.

Is the game on Saturday versus AIC @ 5:30? Seeing it on goblackbears.com and the uscho.com schedule.

Does it matter? :) Over under 2500 for the game. I'll take the under.

If the students are around I'll take the over. This season has had the best attendance since? Saturday was the first time I remember the place genuinely packed in Maybe five years or so.

Actual attendance won't be much more with exam week coming up. I will say its way better parking now so the U has done some things to make it better for fans

Rammed it into a reef?
What about the new frosh?
Takes time to turn things around. At least 2 years from the absolute bottom.
Give Red a little time.

The guy has proven he knows a thing or two and I don't really think he's past his prime.

The crew needs to get the penalty garbage under control, sure.

But they've dropped better teams than UVM (up until about a week ago) and can still.

They get rid of McGovern and get the penalty stuff under control, you're looking at a kick-butt team.

They need a better guy in goal, pure and simple. Time to try the other two.

Coughing up a bunch of box time is bad but it's no excuse.

Give the other goalies a chance, cut the BS penalties, they're right back in the mix.

It's called "working out some kinks". Have a little faith.

McGovern is the BEST they have at the time...Morris is not the answer and Mundinger is just full of question-marks...and as far as RG, what have you seen in the first 3 1/2 years that says he turns this around? Penalty's are killing them...but they have to adapt to the rules, plain and simple and if you have followed the last 3 1/2 years this had been one of the factors holding back there progress, along with recruiting...lack of scoring...poor to streaky net-minding. RG has the Hockey know how in every aspect of the game...except MAYBE he's best suited to be a Assistant Coach @ the Div.1 level. How would you GRADE his performance to this date? A, B , C , D, Incomplete, F? I don't see any solid grade....Incomplete is the easy way out...but if this team fails to win 10 games this season I would think it would grade out as a F. Its harsh and it stings to say it...but he's here to do a job...progress and accountability are lacking imo.

What there is today is one goalie, McGovern.
I don't watch much NHL but caught some the other day and saw some similarities to how RED wants the team to play, I think anyway - such as breaking out of defense (which maine absolutely struggles at), coming through the neutral zone (maine struggles at), and dumping in and chasing with strong fore checking (maine has mixed results in). These are basics of hockey of course but I think I saw some strong style similarities in what Red is training the team to do. Its not working great so far for Maine, I wonder if it can for college hockey given the overall skill level at D1. Opposing teams seem to easily read Reds game plan and style and adjust no problems.

I'm willing to see how things go with Reds leadership for another year or two, but without results and another contract extension would be very suspect as to if that's a good decision by the athletic department

How many games have you watched if you think they should try the other 2?

I'm just saying at this point I don't think throwing Morris another chance is the worst idea in the world.

And as I type this AIC just scored. Faaaantastic.

I should really start a "Miss Cleo" type fortune teller business.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

Maine is up 5 to 2. All 5 goals by freshman, all PP goals. Pearson has a hat trick, Fossier and Holway with other 2.
