Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

There was a bounce or two for Maine, but they played well enough to win.

Fun game to watch; good flow most of the time.

If Mac keeps it up, this season could be interesting far deeper into it than any in quite a while.

Nice win by the Black Bears.

Hopefully not too disappointing a result for walrus......

I'm assuming this is sarcasm not sure you are one to be using it though

Result was great, first game I've seen in Alfond this season. Its good to have a goalie make up for the times Lowell went by guys. Lowell is tricky, they place a guy between Maine d and the puck carrier all the time. Looks like interference to me but the refs don't call it.

Excellent game by 1st line. Really the only line who could generate good shots on a regular basis. Vesey had a great play in 3rd where he chipped the puck past 2 lowell Dmen, blew past them to come in all alone, no goal but a heck a move.

Much better passing then last year, better out of the zone. I was behind Maine bench and Red was quick to talk to the freshman.

I'm assuming Zink and Cochrane miss Sundays game for fighting, looked like punches were thrown at least by Zink.

Hopefully they can play Lowell tough at Lowell

It was actually Pearson not Cochrane and it looks like they got away with misconducts not disqualifications.

It was nice to see the old boys step up tonight and win a game. As I said during the week I think they have been a bit disappointing so far this year. Maine is playing house money on Sunday. After next weekend Maine is done with the hard part of the schedule.

Now that we are close to 1/3rd of the season in, has anyone heard what the Eligibility Status of Tim Doherty and Oliver Herner? Odd that no information about either has been mentioned.

I heard their status is still up in the air and Maine Hockey is waiting to hear back from the NCAA.

I thought it was 24, Pearson will be sitting sunday he had a tough game penalty wise

Sunday will be a tall order to come away with any points. It would have to fall in the "points stolen" category. But with mac playing well it's certainly possible. Maine has always played well at TongueUs arena

Win or lose if they can go into Lowell and play 3 periods like they did in Orono it will be a good day for Maine hockey. Both teams are lucky a fighting penalty wasn't given out at the 20 minute mark of the 3rd. Looked like punches thrown to me.

They were both sitting in the stands last night with suits on, looking pretty bored.

Good win last night, maine was quicker and never really looked tired, Rob made some nice saves, good stuff.
Not so many penalties, actually watched some good 5 on 5, are the refs backing off now?

McGovern was the difference last night coming up with some timely saves after poor clear outs in front of and back of net. ALSO saw the "picks" by UML by the blue lines many times and wonder WHY no interference calls. Gibson has picked up and showing good signs on the offensive part of his game...Ryan Smith playing the unsung player role, blocking shots, digging pucks out of corners and doing the little things that no one see's on the stat and scoring sheets...also thought UML played not there best game...sloppy at times...but that's hockey. Keys Sunday is get the lead, McGovern continuing to shine and keep there penalty's under 5.

Except for the BC weekend, the pattern has been a good or decent performance on Friday night followed by a poor performance Saturday night. See The Q, Miami and Colgate weekends. Let's see if the day off and an away game on Sunday makes a difference. And as I bow my head in church this morning, I pray for Robbie to play and play well in net this afternoon. I don't wanna see no matty mo.

3 pm Sunday game, not good when they play in Alfond but who knows on the road. Not the time teams are used to playing. Love to see Maine get a point or 2. I imagine Lowell will be hyped up. probably going to be up to Rob to keep them in it early.

And not for nothin' but Young Fossier was a rock star the first 4 games (5-3-8) and has gone into hibernation, as Black Bears sometimes do, since then. One point in his last 7 games. I don't understand that one. Someone please poke the Bear!

I'm sure he's getting a lot more attention from other teams. For the last three games he has been on a line with Lacroix which makes zero sense to me. I'm sure there are reasons for it but it certainly isn't helping him right now.

I wud love to see lacroix do something out there. anything. I know he forechecks hard but a goal every millennium wud be good

Hopefully someone who was there posts about Maines play. Gibson scored, been the most consistent player for Maine this season besides Rob.

Maine had nine power plays. According to Hannigan only the last two had any chance of producing a goal. Maine could not set up anything with the other seven.

I went. It was kind of one of those days. Lowell had a lot of the puck but didn't create a ton of chances. All of their goals except the second were pretty scrappy. On the third Shea took one of the worst penalties i've ever seen to setup a 5X3 for a minute with Michel already in the box. It seemed like every time Maine was going to have a good chance the puck would bounce over their stick. It would have been nice to see Maine get something out of it but anyone who isn't happy with the split is insane. A split next weekend really puts Maine in great shape.
