Doherty & Pieper no answer for you, Hoglund the 2nd Semester.

Sounds like Pieper is out for this year, Hoglund is second semester, Doherty is up in the air, and Herner is out for a few games. I took it as a bad sign Sunday that Doherty and Herner didn't play.

Warm and cuddly......that philosophy has really piled up the wins of late.

I hope you realize he was being sarcastic. The guy can blow a gasket with the best of them. That hasn't worked either

Whats a handful of games anyway? Bets on whether or not Herner plays this year?

Well good for larry, finally got an article out on hockey.
Sounds like the coaches are satisfied with the players potentials.
I like the size and skating improvements. A rough start will not be unexpected for a young team.
To be seen will be how the team gells, i guess they dont do a katahdin bonding hike anymore. Also be looking to see if there is noticeable improvement by the second half of the season. Like BC always does.

Can't figure that one out...maybe 2 games? 6 games? One Semester? Anyone's guess. As far as Doherty he could very well be out for a full season, didn't he play some last season for Brown? If so then he most likely he would have to sit out a full season, again this is ONLY a guess on my part.

He never played and unless he took summer classes before the fall he started I don't believe he actually he earned any credits either. He left sometime around this year and they don't start games until the end of October. I know it was for different reasons but Vatrano might be the best comparison and I don't think he was allowed to play in games until the end of the season. Some of that might have been due to him being in trouble but I don't remember all the particulars.

walrus... told you UVM was going to suck... Sneddon needs to go.

Yeah, you guys are a mess

Maine looks good so far, all 3 goals by freshman. 3 zip after 2. Shea has some wheels. Too many penalties by maine and pp is just like last year, sucks for those that can't remember ;)

Like what I see from these freshman so far. Very poised. Based on a small sample size and the goaltenders staying healthy I can see Maine around 6th in the league. Bunch of guys with size that can skate. Gotta stay out of the box though. Three goals from freshman, they had 8 total all season from last years frosh

We found a team worse than us.. at least for 1 day. Santaguida playing well in goal.. otherwise there is some bad D..looks like the NY Rangers D in preseason..

Not exactly that difficult when the team you're playing does herbies for each time they take a shot...

5 to 1 Maine. Not perfect as PP sucks and far too many penalties but they carried play for long stretches. They are faster than we've seen in years. Rob made some saves. Fossier with a hat trick. Shea with a great goal using a screen. Vesey finally gets one off a nice set up. Good win but its only one game.

Its a POSITIVE to work on, but indeed your right one game and anything and everything can change tonight...penalty's again that will kill you...liked the way McGovern played...looked better moving from side to side and quick kick out saves...its a start and baby steps in order...but we shall see come 8-10 games into the season where they are at from there to now.

They will have their ups and downs, young team. It sure looks like their skating and quickness is much better, couple this with size improvement this will be an advantage. Long season though.

As far as I'm concerned the penalties were more on Federico and Bunyon than anything else. They made way too many soft calls against both teams. Hopefully the foolishness comes to an end soon.

I was very happy last night with everything. It's hard to think of one player who had a bad game. The PP is mostly new personnel and I think in time it will improve. The coaches have only been able to work with them for a week. One of the most impressive things is that supposedly two of Maine's better freshmen didn't even play last night. I have a suspicion there are going to be a lot of folks owing Red an apology.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

Key takeaway from last night for me was the high compete level for most if not all of the freshman I saw on the ice. When you combine a will to win with talent and size, you've got something to work with. Hopefully these youngsters continue to find the back of the net. If they do, these guys will become a special class at UM(O). Lets see if they come to play tonight against what should be a hungrier RPI team. Good night all around though for Hockey East, except for those boneheads on the Heights. :D
