Oh, one other tidbit. Tickets for Frozen Fenway go on sale Thursday. You can access the ticket website early by entering the code MAINEALUM

I'd suggest folks wait for standing room tickets. There will be plenty of seats available and save a lot of money.

Reports are that McGovern did improve his shape this summer and has looked impressive this far in camp.

In a not at all related note, but something I expect many here will find interesting: the athletic teams were helping incoming freshmen move in and came upon one wearing a UNH shirt. Obviously the kid was lost.
Lost as in he didn't know where he was? Or lost as in the hockey team misplaced him in the bottom of a dumpster?

McGovern is in much better shape than when he arrived last season and has been at goalie camps/ training all summer. I think he'll be a much improved version of '15-16 McGovern.

Ten freshmen on the roster. One to watch is the Hungarian kid according to the coaching staff.

Sounds good on Rob, he looked slow to me last season. Takes up a lot of net but didn't move that well.

10 freshman is taking quite a chance by the staff. After a 8 win season I guess they figured they had to do something.

Did you hear anything on the freshmen forwards? I think they are the ones who make or break Maine's season.

^^^^The likes of Pearson, Pappalardo, Shea, et al will have to step up and contribute right away.

Plus McGovern had injuries (2 times) during the season which were said to be the Lower Body type...with the word being he hurt his knee both times, once versus Union and again versus UML. So that in itself hampered McGovern's movement...he was a whole lot quicker down in Portland. A healthy and in shape goaltender can't hurt....

Goaltending has been an issue for years. Maine got 1.5 yrs from Marty, other than that it has been a weak point since Ben.

Oh I hear you loud and clear...until they get someone to take the #1 job and make it a plus, then Maine goes nowhere in there rebuild/retool plans...it all starts from the goaltending out and in Maine's case that has been absent for a long time.

I'd like to see a rotation. If you look through the history of Maine hockey it was always at its best when two guys were splitting time. I feel okay about the goaltending this year but time will tell.

The big "what if" with goaltending remains had Scott Darling not gotten himself in trouble......

It's one thing when you've got two number one goalies. We've been handicapped with one number two goalie.

Re: UMaine Black Bears, 2016 2017 season thread

Canon Pieper and Robin Hoglund, both forwards, have been added to the UMaine roster as shown on the goblackbears website. Both are listed as juniors. Pieper comes from Quinnipiac, where is twin brother currently plays. Hoglund, a Swede, comes from the University of Minnesota. Previous reports have said Pieper will have to sit out the current year, which makes me wonder why he's been added to this year's roster; an internet posting on Hoglund says he'll be eligible to play 2nd semester of the current year. He didn't play any games for Minnesota.

Interesting...Pieper was said to have to sit out this season before being able to play 2 seasons afterwards...I can't see that changing as he did play some games for QU last season...in Hoglunds case maybe because he did not suit up or play in any regular season games for Minnesota in 2015-16 then maybe by sitting out the 1st semester counts for him to be able to play in the second half of Maine's upcoming season. Either way interesting developments.

I think Hoglund informed Minnesota that he wanted to transfer before the end of the first semester last year, so he lost one semester of eligibility last year and will lose one semester this year.

still haven't seen anything on the goblackbears website about Oliver Herner, the 6'7" Hungarian defenseman.
