Trying to forgive and forget with old age but this backwood hick living in a trailer has a hard timeHold a grudge or what![]()
I lived in various single-wides during my years in Maine, once for months in one at Ripogenus Dam, and loved every minute of it. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it, groovy!Trying to forgive and forget with old age but this backwood hick living in a trailer has a hard time
What were you doing for work near Ripogenus? Either a white water raft guide or forrestry?I lived in various single-wides during my years in Maine, once for months in one at Ripogenus Dam, and loved every minute of it. Don't knock it 'til you've tried it, groovy!
(Full disclosure: the Welfare mamas at my trailer park(s) in Stillwater absolutely ROCKED. Neil Young had that shit right!)
Worked for Pray's Cottages. My little trailer was behind the main building where Charlie Pray and Nancy lived. What were you doing for work near Ripogenus? Either a white water raft guide or forrestry?
Been down through there a lot rafting. Great fly fishing country.
When I went up the Golden Road I don’t recall any house or trailers near there.
I get that.Worked for Pray's Cottages. My little trailer was behind the main building where Charlie Pray and Nancy lived.
Next to mine was another trailer where my co-workers stayed. (Two hot tickets from Millinocket, who will remain un-named for legal reasons.)
Life was good. Fished my balls off all summer. Best day was 14 keeper salmon on dries. Might have been my best summer ever, in an overall sense.
We hated the rafting; it was just starting then, and it really fucked up the fishing when numerous boatloads of drunken flatlanders put the fish down every 10 minutes. That turned the West Branch into a silly amusement park, as far as we fishermen went.

What a great ranking system. The new computer rankings are out. Dartmouth is #1.
Maine is unranked. In fact, #3 Norteastern is the only Hockey East team in the tournament.
We didn't have a liquor license back then, but we stocked vanilla extract -never mind that nobody ever actually baked cakes in the cottages- and it would sell out quickly. The pulp truckers would literally drink ANYTHING with alcohol in it, even Aqua Velva. True story. When you saw those crazy mothers hurtling towards you on the Golden Road, you looked for a handy ditch to bail into, immediately... It was a Come to Jesus moment every time.I sold beer and wine to Nancy for a couple summers. At the start of the season, she'd leave a message at one of the c-stores in town. I'd get a 12-pack of Lite so we'd be able to conduct a proper sales call. She loved it when one of her reps would bring a brewery rep from Boston or something. She'd watch them get eaten alive by the bugs but try to remain cool & professional as she sat there barely containing her laughter as she wore her DEET-soaked bandana as a necklace. She was always the last sales call on Friday afternoons because she was always pretty much a 3-beer call. She wasn't worth a lot of money, but she was one of my favorites. She offered to teach me to fly fish. I still regret never taking her up on that.
My other favorite client who never did much business with me was a florist in Guilford who coached me through dating the angel who married me. Id have never made it without her advice.
Are you insinuating that the girls were my first-cousins..?
I mean what could go wrongGroovey, they put Rouilliard in charge of the new ranking system.![]()
No, but funny. I was more kidding about Millinocket "hot tickets" even existing. FWIW, I've camped several times in BSP, mostly at South Branch Pond. Compared to Patten, Millinocket is Manhattan. Are you insinuating that the girls were my first-cousins..?
How dare you!
I might be of Maine stock, but I draw the line there.
I always enjoy a trip through the patten area. No, but funny. I was more kidding about Millinocket "hot tickets" even existing. FWIW, I've camped several times in BSP, mostly at South Branch Pond. Compared to Patten, Millinocket is Manhattan.
