UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Poirier is a monster. 13 shot attempts and 8 SOG, he was possessed. HC had no answer for that line.

All the lines looked really in sync, especially compared to the UNH game and practice on Wed where Barr was balling them out a few times for being "slow and effing sloppy". Clearly that resonated tonight.

Don't think the fourth line had a single shift that wasn't impactful. I will keep banging the drum to keep Pichette in the lineup. Gerrior has been the most consistent player in all the games/practices I've seen so far.

Defense had a few really bad turnovers in the D zone that better teams will eat up but In Boija We Trust.

These looked like two teams in different weight classes.

I thought they looked a lot smaller too, which they obviously are to a large degree.

Maine had a couple really good stretches but they definitely didn’t dominate play the way I would have liked. I hate seeing Maine take so many big hits, especially against a much weaker team.
Holy Cross is not as bad as people think. They were a good team last year or you dont win 24 games. They also returned most of the team.

Speed will come i think the major thing i noticed being there was we have some very high agility players with skilled puck making. Poirier looks stronger and has a shot equal to Bradly when he was here but he doesnt rely on the one time as much. This team will progressively get better the freshman just need to get used to bigger and stronger players then they were used to before

It will help them having a home heavy schedule to start before they get their feet underneath them

Some of these freshman are true impact players

Pichette looked stronger and faster last night than pretty much all games he played last year. Maybe he trained hard in the off-season.

Gerrior took a couple hits. I think he will be a quick nifty guy that sneaks to the net front. I think he’s got to develop the bull dog mentality like he showed at times in juniors. Players are bigger and nastier in NCAA around the net so he’s going to need to be sneakier, tougher, and peskier at getting to the net. Let’s see if we see that side of his game develop.

I thought Langlois played good for his first game. Had a flub up or two keeping puck in the zone, but overall I like his decisions with the puck and where he went with his passing.

Motew played very solid defensively. He is bigger than I thought he was. He seems to be strong too. Like how he showed some mean streak a couple times. Want to see more of that because he might develop into a solid defensively defenseman.

Good group of freshman so far after one game. Excited to see how the new guys play again tonight.

Wow Wally, you have faith....assuming you think big Blue will be in Vegas. Could happen I suppose if the frosh develop. I think Lipinski will be a gem down the road. Good size and knows how to use it. Assume we see Rousseau in net tonight to start a rotation. What I saw of him against UHN at Bowdoin impressed me. Not as quick as a cat, quicker.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Rousseau get more time than Berzins got last year. I think riding Boija too much might not set up contingency well if Boija gets injured.

Have to think it'll be at least an 80/20 split in net. Rousseau has the talent to steal a larger share if he can earn it but definitely not sustainable for Boija to own a 95% crease share like he had last season.

Frozen 4 is fun whether Maine is there or not. Never been to Vegas, want to see Hoover Dam and Grand canyon so we will be doing some sight seeing also. Kid wanted to go, Wife wanted to go so what the heck :) need a vacation once in a while. Its possible Maine makes it there but given their last 2 years of NCAAs performances ?????

Sure would like to see that killer instinct in the first period. Second night in a row they've scored early but weren't able to find a second.
