UMaine 25-26: Marques My Word: Back to the Big Time

Believe Fossier had the hat trick against RPI and then the overtime winner against quinnipiac the week or so after
This sounds right. Man I miss that guy, still my favorite player.

Team did what they should have which was defeat an inferior team. I think they are going to take some time to get into a groove, but once they do I think the sky is the limit. They look like they have nearly unlimited potential.

Mitch Fossier scored a hat trick on his debut vs RPI. He scored the game-winning goal in each of his first three games. (RPI, RPI, Quinnipiac)

10 different players with points tonight. Nine assists on the five goals indicates good puck movement that leads to opportunities. Every player had at least one shot. Another positive indicating everyone was involved in the offense. Wish they published the hitting stats.

I’m not sure Komarov lead in hits total… but I think he lead in punishing hits. He seemed to have a few bone crushers.

Komarov could keep putting on weight and be an all-time grinder. Nice to see Russell/Scholle/Fowler move a little more the rest of the game. Marques' hockey sense is great. Impressed w Poirier's forecheck. Noticed Lipinski but didn't notice Max much of the second and third. Didn't take long for Josh to get a little timid, but impressed w his forecheck and hustle too; seems like he took summer seriously. Poirier will lead NCAA is goals this season. Albin is the best goalie in NCAA when under pressure but it takes a serious threat to get him *really* locked in

For those at the game how was the team speed?
On tv it looked considerably slower than last year. But then hard to say on tv.

I thought they looked a lot smaller too, which they obviously are to a large degree.

Maine had a couple really good stretches but they definitely didn’t dominate play the way I would have liked. I hate seeing Maine take so many big hits, especially against a much weaker team.

I watched on tv too. The one player I thought lost a step is Scholle. His gate or stride looks shorter and choppier. So I don’t know if the injury we have been hearing about is some sort of a groin or hamstring type issue. Just seems like he isn’t getting complete power out of his stride. I didn’t see him as that slow in previous seasons.

I think that the team speed is fine otherwise. I think agility is superior to top end speed. Stop and go stuff really creates time and space which is what the team needs more of. It was noticeable that a Maine was winning races to pucks with relative ease.

I agree they got a little smaller. But the second smallest guy on the team got a hat trick… so I’m all for small, agile, nifty etc…

Seriously. Who is in charge of these production decisions? A decent tripod can be purchased for under $100.
I’m not sure, but this is just how Maine is. And it has oddities when you look at it sometimes.

Like you could just be farting around and drive down some side road off route 1 and find someone’s property that at first is really nice. Like a multimillion dollar property on the ocean, big nice house. With a separate three car detached garage with a in-law suite above it. At the same time you could see 5 cords of wood that half sawed with no organization to anything sawed or split. You will see a old junker of a boat that looks like it was a fun time in the early 70s but now has thorny bushes growing all around it, mold, mildew, cracked windshield, and sitting on a rusted trailer with flat tires. You could easily see a couple old junk cars parked off by the edge of the woods like an old 1987 suburban with one door different than the rest. Oh and the front door of the mansion will be painted some odd color that is too bold and clashes with the rest of the house. Lime flaming fluorescent green. And siding is brown. Then you see the lawn gnomes with maybe even a flamingo or a deer in a completely random spot.

You might think this is an exaggeration, but you likely are one of those people or have one in your own family or group of friends.

So for some reason it doesn’t even shock me that we have a $50 million dollar addition for our rink but yet we can’t find a tripod for the camera and someone that won’t jerk the camera around like some caffeine overloaded 75 year old with Parkinson’s.

I think I liked Poirier first goal, I think most of Maine players would have shot it into the goalies leg pad, Poirier lifted it in close. Great goal. Of course the snipes were awesome also :)

What was Langlois injury last year? Wonder if he plays tonight? Still think it takes awhile before we see what this team can do. Lots of new parts and pieces. I have game tickets, plane tickets and hotel res in Vegas, Go Blue :)

Wow, awesome. Well that is it, Maine has to go now. Plus Vegas should be cheaper since things are slow there and places are cutting way back. When US printed money to bail banks out, and then later for COVID… it finally caught up and people can’t even or can barely afford groceries. When people got this stimulus checks and were so happy to get something back they didn’t realize an obvious thing… delutes the dollar which inflates prices of everything you buy with that dollar. So we are all paying for that now. Looks like we are headed for mortgage bank bailout issue again as banks are letting people leverage too high. Heard FHA might lend now for 40 years on a mortgage. I’m sure government will print more money to give to the banks again. And we will all pay more in the long run again. So when Vegas turns into a ghost town they can thank the government for all the money they printed. I think everyone should have to pass a rigorous test where you have to understand economics, financing, and investments before you get your diploma.

I’ll get of my soap box now.

On Poirier, he seems like a real gem. He also seems to be feisty for his size. I love it when he got his helmet ripped off then went jawing at the Holy Cross bench. Likely that was a French tirade. Josh Nadeau did a similar thing to UNH once when they got under hit skin, hit him up high a few times in the game. Josh got the last laugh that day with a hat trick.

Poirier is a fiery little gunslinger…
