5-0 Anthoine shorthanded, not sure how he isn't on 2nd line at this point but... Good showing for Maine

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Encouraging game from Maine. Ready to go from opening minute. Clarkson . . . I have nothing to say, except they seemed to still be on break. Terrible is too strong a word, but not by a lot. Mass outplayed Cornell, plain and simple. Cornell had size, but they also had slow. Mass outhustled them. CU still had chances . . .

Bunyon & Federico's game was the better reffed imo. Bennie and Shea were hyper.

So............what was the score at the end............??

Maine beats the bad teams and loses to the good ones nearly every time, lately...

I wonder: will that be enough to keep Tim around for two more years?

Re: UMaine, 2011-2012 season thread, does anyone care anymore?

Amazing what a couple weeks away from TIMMAY can do.

Imagine what that could be like for a whole season.

Edit: Just saw that Maine was playing against a junior goalie making only his fifth career start. Yep, TIMMAY sure can wallop them crappy teams. Wake me when he does the same to a BC, BU or UNH.

I think USCHO writer Jim Connelly might actually be Big Papa -

Maine
If I listened to the Maine fans who commented on my latest blog, you would think the Black Bears are meeting expectations. I said that much more was expected of this team preseason, while those who commented from Orono said .500 was where they believed this team would be.

Honestly, I have a hard time believing that. Maine has as much talent as any other team. Plenty of offensive ability, one of the better playmaking defensemen in Will O’Neill and an overall defensive corps most coaches would love to have.

Yes, goaltending is a question mark as neither Dan Sullivan nor Martin Ouellette has proven himself as consistent every night. But that’s something that I, along with most of the coaches in their preseason poll, believe the Black Bears could overcome.

And I still do believe that.

What will it take to turn things around, though? That’s the million dollar question. Obviously it begins with goaltending. Coach Tim Whitehead will need to choose his No. 1 and stick by it. Pulling goaltenders, as happened early in the season, can hurt a goaltender’s confidence. It seems Sullivan will be the No. 1 moving forward. Now it will be his job to play like one.

No video of the game tonight either? I'm not a fan of the audio only. If anyone finds video, (free or otherwise) please pass along.

there is a link to a story about restless natives... in that story, it mentions that Maine's winning streak is against teams ranked 39th and below.

I am glad that was mentioned. Too often people look at the wins (which are certainly important), and forget to look at who played.

I wanna take your sentiment a little further.. "when Maine can beat BU BC or UNH... or when the "talented players" can score on a regular basis against BU, BC and UNH...
Not only is clarkson crappy overall, they were missing their top goalie

who would ever have thought that a game against UMass, when UMass was 9th in the league, would be an important test....

does Maine get back over .500? I said at the beginning of the season that they would not do it again... here's hoping I was wrong

I sure wouldn't put UNH up there with BC or BU right now (or with most of the rest of HE, given our dismal, even crappy record. I really can't wait to go to Fenway next weekend to see how these 2 teams do against each other. There's always a lot of hype for a Maine-UNH match-up, but this one will be special. It will be interesting to see how the players respond -- to the hype, as well as to the atmosphere and whatever the weather conditions may be (TWC predicts a mostly sunny day, with a high of 43 deg. and 20% chance of precipitation -- but that's still 8 days away.)

Sucks. I usually get them through goblackbears but by the time I got home from work, there was only the link for audio. I have found the video to be pausing a ton this year as compared to years past. Who knows, maybe it is my connection.

I dont know...UNH may be having a crappy season but Maine teams cant compete with them lately to the extent required to actually beat UNH. A sad state of affairs for hockey in Orono these days. Whathead has got to go. He is such a terrible coach.
