UConn's Marshall Resigns

Re: UConn's Marshall Resigns

UNH's assistant coach Scott Borek applied for the Umass Amherst job, so its obvious he's looking to become a Head Coach. It'd be interesting to see if Borek will apply for this one as UConn is moving to Hockey East in 2 years...

Guessing that whomever is chosen will have to have played D-1. Pecknold has not. There is a clear question at the moment which league is stronger, the ECAC or the AHA, so accomplishment in the ECAC this year is suspect in my view. There is no question that HE is the strongest and would represent a step up.

I don't think anybody is asking that question.

Re: UConn's Marshall Resigns

Wait wait wait... who says we want Whitehead to leave maine?

I reckon that Maine will be happy to see him gone, UConn will be disappointed he's the guy they picked, and the other ten teams in Hockey East will be happy he's at least still in-league.

Having played D1 should be a factor, but I don't see why it would have to be a pre-requisite.

Re: UConn's Marshall Resigns

Other online reports state that Coach Marshals ailment is not life threatening, that's good news, best of luck to him!

Re: UConn's Marshall Resigns

names I've heard around other than Berard, who I think is the leader in the clubhouse right now, are Blaise McDonald, Jim Tortorella from UNH and Pearl from Holy Cross. Pearl turned down the UMass job reportedly but views UConn in a slightly different light. I think, unless there is a total collapse Berard gets to be the permanent head coach. I suspect that people are just tossing out names at this point though with little actual information.

Re: UConn's Marshall Resigns

Coach Marshall reveals why he stepped down.

On July 11, less than two weeks after Marshall posed for photographers with Malloy and UConn President Susan Herbst, documents from Superior Court at Rockville show Marshall's wife Kathy filed papers for divorce.

When the school announced in early November that Marshall would take a personal medical leave of absence, it came one day after a case management agreement for the divorce was filed. UConn would not disclose the nature of Marshall's problems at that time.

Sitting in an area coffee shop this week, Marshall confirmed he underwent alcohol rehabilitation.

Re: UConn's Marshall Resigns

Thoughts and prayers go out to Coach Marshall and his family. Admire him for setting his priorities in the right order. God bless, Bruce.
