UCONN 2015-2016: The Hockey East Journey Continues..the Future Looks Bright

Yeah, the handbag size thing is irritating for anyone who is a first timer this year. My wife is not happy about having to change bags either. Btw, I was told that the Manchester Road Race was on an ISIS potential target list captured over the weekend.

Re: UCONN 2015-2016: The Hockey East Journey Continues..the Future Looks Bright

The ten days off seem to have done the Huskies some good. Wish I could have been there. Listened to the last 3 minutes on the radio. Exciting.

Re: UCONN 2015-2016: The Hockey East Journey Continues..the Future Looks Bright

The fight for HE first round home ice starts tomorrow night vs. UVM. The question is, which Huskies team will show up? A must win game.

Re: UCONN 2015-2016: The Hockey East Journey Continues..the Future Looks Bright

A really fine effort tonight at the XL to send the seniors on their way in style. After last Friday night when the Huskies seemed to have no jump, this evening was a very pleasant surprise. Plenty of jump and some jaw dropping dangle moves to boot. A good turnout too although a couple thousand had made their way down from New Hampshire,

Home ice is on the line tomorrow night in Durham. Lets see if the Huskies are up to the challenge. It would be great to have a couple more games in Hartford this year.

I seem to be the only person posting on this thread these days, but I do have to say this:

HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After a very long period of uncertainty, this season is now officially a step forward.

Sorry Dick...I have been mia for a LONG while. This weekend was a complete 180 from last weekend against NU. Ronan definitely made a difference...I also thought Pauly, Thompson, Letunov, Kirkland and Masonius played a GREAT 2 games against UNH. The 4th line was really hopping, and Segalla has improved leaps and bounds since coming back from his suspension. It will be a fun weekend against UVM at home.

Re: UCONN 2015-2016: The Hockey East Journey Continues..the Future Looks Bright

Anyone who buys UVM tickets make sure you check the dates before you print them out. My wife noticed the date to game 3 was wrong, and that UConn had corrected the mistake and resent the email with the link for the tickets.

Mike Cavanaugh said that UConn sold more than 2,000 tickets alone yesterday for this weekend's playoffs. UConn folks excited about PO hockey

Congrats to UConn for their early Hockey East success. Hosting a playoff game year 2 is quite impressive. To do it without a full slate of scholarships is even more impressive. Best of luck this weekend.

Thanks for that. For me it will somewhat unusual to see green and gold and be rooting the other way. I grew up in a UVM family, Professor Tuthill was on the Athletic Council, and I attended Clarkson in its hockey heyday. But I remember hanging around out in the very warm October sun with Bruce Marshall circa 1990 or 1991. We were waiting for the ice to harden under the roof so the kids could skate in the UConn preseason hockey camp. I joked with Bruce about the fact that Army was leaving the ECAC and I wondered who UConn's travel partner would be. On the face of it that was preposterous and we all had a good chuckle. I won't have any problem rooting for the blue and white tonight.

Hmmm, a budding Nostradamus! Sweet! What's your prediction for this series? That'll tell us if you're truly legit.
Nah, I have no idea. Last night's game would have turned out much differently if UConn's second goal had been scored 0.1 second earlier.

In general, I do not do short term forecasts. Too much fluctuation in the short term. I'll only do season-long forecasts ... which in the last two years have come true on the last goal of the last game of the RS :cool: You can look it up.

And as I said earlier, I really can't lose in this playoff series. If UConn loses, I'll at least be happy it is to UVM.

Good competitive series....it was fun to watch the line of Kalter, El-Mir, Ferris buzz around and continue to build on their late season arrival/improvement. The senior class of Kirkland, Ferris, Pauly and Huson will be missed. They were solid contributors night in and night out....a group of guys who were recruited to play in the AHA not HE. A truly classy hard working group. On to next year...Cav gets the final 3 scholarships to be at 18. His incoming class so far looks to be about adding depth to the roster. I expect that at sometime in the next 8-10 months they will have the goalie recruit to succeed Nichols. Time for the off-season now...and the definite need to get bigger and stronger.

Re: UCONN 2015-2016: The Hockey East Journey Continues..the Future Looks Bright

Went to Saturday night's game, UConn played well. They had all of the momentum in the 3rd, until the non-call leg check, which opened the ice and led to a UVM goal. I am not privy to replays of the collision, but as someone who has watched a lot of hockey and saw it live, those dangerous hits are called 99% of the time. If it's called, UConn goes on the power play up 3-2, it's not called and the hit leads to a scoring rush for UVM and 3-3 game. Very unfortunate and very tough night for the officials, all game they seemed out of sync.

That said, UConn lost because they have very weak upperclassmen. Not weak as individuals, just weak in terms of Hockey East caliber skill. The bright side, is IMO their best players were freshmen. The emergence of guys like Kalter and El-Mir, combined with Masonius, Letunov and Thompson, give them a very strong freshmen class.

Night and day from their finish last year. Things appear to be going in the right direction, now we just need some recruiting magic like last off-season!!

Yeah, I prefer this interpretation. Remember that when David Berard was still in place, he was hamstrung by not having scholarships available for most of the recruiting cycle. I seem to remember that Cav cut a few of his recruits quite early. Of the four current juniors this year, whom besides Richardson was recruited by Cav? Do we know? Segalla, Kuunas, and Nichols are the candidates.

Btw, I also suspect that the seniors were getting a little money so there may be more than 3 rides available.

Didn't even consider this fact. It will be interesting to see what happens during this recruiting cycle..do they get any late surprises fall into their laps or is there any roster turnover. In addition to the 4 Seniors, Will Golonka left mid-season so there are 5 spots so far that need to be filled.

Looks like Cav found his goalie to replace Nichols.....Adam Huska committed yesterday. He is currently with the Green Bay Gamblers in the USHL..also played in the WJC for Slovakia and was a 7th round pick by the NY Rangers in the 2015 draft. http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=201638

Re: UCONN 2015-2016: The Hockey East Journey Continues..the Future Looks Bright

Huska is a big get for UConn. He's an exciting prospect for the rangers. dominating stats in the USHL and was Slovakia's best player at the world juniors this year.

Coach Cav and staff continue to build. I am very impressed.
