UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Ugh. Just continuing to be unable to find a way to get the win. Good observation about not being able to handle the expectations. I wonder if that is the problem right now. They've never been a team expected to win, it's a different beast than over achieving. Need these points down the stretch.

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Army had a packed house last night, I had no idea they had that following.

Solid road win! Need two more next weekend.

Always been like that. Those are our boys too. If they were a bit closer I would be going to some of their games.

SHU just beat Bentley. This coming weekend will be no walk in the park. Focus both on and off the ice to execute the plan required.

Who gets the start in net on Friday? Tough call. Don't want to see the senior on the bench, but man that first goal on Friday was bad. Can't have those going in this time of year.

The first goal was especially bad given the team was cruising along with a two goal lead. The third goal was a juicy rebound too. Granted the front of the net needs to be cleared, but he can't leave rebounds right out in front.

I go with the freshman.

My only fear is can he do it back to back, he really dropped the ball on that when he the chance the Bentley weekend. I'm just playing devil's advocate. I'm glad i don't have to make these decisions!

I don't know what I'd do quite honestly. These guys need to be focused this weekend. Two wins. Splitting series against the bottom of the league is not the way you want to go into the playoffs. To say nothing of the fact that it could cost you a bye and home ice! Though the way they've played the last two weeks at home, maybe that isn't a bad thing...

This is an easy decision you have to go with Nichols - just put him on a short leash. Grogan is capable of letting goals in from the red line at any time during the game. Cavanaugh used his last "Mulligans" on Grogan the last (2) Friday nights vs Holy Cross and Army (both those games were home no less). Sorry, the best thing for the team is go with the frosh anything else would be foolish this time of year.

I can see playing either one of them. Glad I don't have to make this call. Much easier to sit in the crowd and second guess it.

+1 Except for the second guessing part. I will never do that regarding a coach's decision on who is getting the PT.

Have to remember to use one of these faces ;) for sarcasm. So I know the JAR and Olympia are freezing, does anybody know about the Ice Pavilion's temp? Just wondering if i'm going to need to bring the long johns again?

Not a great job until it is finished.

This is what I don't get....UConn just tied the win record for league wins, achieved home ice and a bye, yet some fans feel like it's not enough. Since when did they become championship caliber? In my opinion, they over achieved this year.

I'd love to see them win an AHA title too, but come on....enjoy the accomplishments along the way.

Congrats Huskies! Good luck in the playoffs.

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Atlantic Hockey released the playoff format and seeded UConn 4th behind Air Force. Apparently it went to the fifth tiebreaker the winning percentage vs. #1 Mercyhurst. Two ties is worse than two wins and a loss. What a shame because UConn played all those games against Air Force and Mercyhurst on the road and Air Force's two wins against Mercyhurst were at home.

We are measuring from last year as the benchmark. 80% of the scoring back, top goalie back, five scholarships vs. no scholarships the year before. In the eastern pod stretch run they were a 0.500 team this year. It is not rocket science.

The bar is higher this year. They will have underperformed unless they get to the championship game.

Btw, check the time of my last post. Before yesterday's game.
