UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Dick, If you gave me 3 points right now I'd load everyone back on the plane and head back to Bradley! I think that's a tough place to play but this team has shown some guts the last 2 weeks. I'd love 4 points but a couple of ties or 1-1 wouldn't be the end of the world either.
Let's see what they've got. Back to the eastern pod next weekend. Crunch time has started. This is the part of the season that everybody lives for.

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Sounded like a great win last night, although losing the territorial advantage, they buried 25% of their chances.

One loss in January and momentum heading into the final stretch. Hard not to be excited for this stretch run.

Let's finish the sweep tonight boys, Go Huskies!

Pick up two more points tonigh, bury Air Force in the standings, and set up another huge weekend next week. Gotta love this time of the year. Let's go huskies get the sweep.

Do you go with the hot hand tonight in Nichols or go back to the proven guy? Tough call.

They should of went with Nichols kid in net tonight. The kid has played against quality opponents this year and he hasnt loss in addition his save percentage is alot higher than Grogans.I thought it would be a no brainer for him to play again tonight. This loss should be on the Uconn coaches. Maybe Grogan proved himself last year but that was a long time ago. This year his stats are alot worse than last year.

You can't give up on the senior yet. Now that they are approaching the stretch run they will need to ride the hot goaltender, but it's still early. And it's definitely too early to start criticizing the coaching staff. This team has 2 losses in 2014, I think the coaches have been doing a fine job.

The expectations on this board for a hockey team that has never won anything is quite comical.

This weekend was a great split. Even the game they lost, they came back to make it a 2-1 game in the third. Except for a couple "no shows" (which happens to all teams) UConn has consistently demonstrated their relentless work ethic all season.

Of course I would have loved to see a sweep or even three points, but after flying across the country into a high altitude for two back to back games, I'll take the split.

Very tough to win two in a row at a place like Colorado Springs with that altitude. They did well to come as close as they did. And I am certainly not gonna debate the choice of goaltenders. That would be just nuts. Time to look forward. Huge weekend coming up. Focus focus focus.

Agree on all points Dick. Now we're entering crunch time. Last year the goal was to get a bye in the first round. This year it our goal is higher. Starts Friday at 7:05 in Storrs.

Huge series. I was at the first game against Bentley back in November, they lost 3-0, but IMO were the better team. Couldn't buy a goal, in all seriousness probably hit 5 or 6 pipes. Hopefully they come out angry, bear down at the net, and bury.

this is a huge series for both teams I think. I'm trying to get up to Storrs on Friday for the home game.

Dominating win tonight by your Huskies; congrats. See you at the JAR tomorrow night.

Guess the kid isn't ready to assume full time duty in the pipes just yet.

Wow, pretty hard on your goalie. Your other guys on the ice did him no favors allowing that breakaway SHG. I thought that the game was much closer than the score would indicate; Komm stood on his head the entire game except for allowing the wrap around goal. I am thinking that our two teams should make it to Rochester this year. Good luck the rest of the way.

You're right it probably is being a little hard on him, but the second two goals were not good goal to allow. Have to be saved, and I'm sure if you asked him he'd say the same. On the shortie the point man actually did a good job getting back and really forced a shot from the outer edge of the scoring zone. Was sitting back in his net both times, instead of being out challenging the shooters. Maybe the mark of inexperience, maybe tired from the night before, or maybe just a bad night. Who knows, but this time of year those goals are back breakers. I agree on your other points though. Komm made made the big saves for his team when the Huskies carried play for the most part over the final 40 minutes. At the end of the day the Falcons got it done on Saturday and the Huskies didn't. Forget about it and move on. Hopefully they both make it to Rochester and get another crack at each other.

Re: UConn 2013-2014: Let the Cavanaugh Era Begin

Kind of a blah weekend, but can't be discouraged. Not sure how I feel about tomorrow nights tilt. The AHA season is so tight, I feel like this game is almost a waste. Or terrible timing.

Reasons to be encouraged? The two recruits UConn just plucked from Minnesota. Coach Cav has had his share of 5'7 dynamo's, and it appears he has landed another. You can't teach speed, and from recent reports, these two have a ton of it. We'll see, but encouraging nonetheless.
