UAH Hockey is on the precipice. Please tell our President to step off.

Re: UAH Hockey is on the precipice. Please tell our President to step off.

I'm on my lunch break and posting by phone so I can't provide the link but the Nashville City Paper, our local free paper, has an article up about UAH and our troubles. They seem to be drawing a connection because of Blake and the home grown thing. I haven't read it yet, that whole work thing, but I wanted to give others the heads up to so they can go look for it. I think the website is www.nashvillecitypaper.com but don't hold me to it.

Things have slowed down a bit, 3132 signatures. :(

Anyone intending on telling the buddies in your section when you go to games?

Re: UAH Hockey is on the precipice. Please tell our President to step off.

Just signed your on-line petition.

Best of luck in convincing UAH and the University of Alabama System to continue its support of the only Division I hockey program in the "Heart of Dixie"!

We'll see y'all in North Andover, MA on the 23rd of November!

Re: UAH Hockey is on the precipice. Please tell our President to step off.

This SO needs to be on the first page. The signatures look like they've slowed down. :(

Just a wacky thought... are there any T-shirts available? Wearing those to hockey games could help get the word out.

Re: UAH Hockey is on the precipice. Please tell our President to step off.

A new UAH president was named today:

http://blog.al.com/breaking/2011/09/robert_altenkirch_named_new_pr.html

From what I've read, Dr. Altenkirch has proven to be active in the community and a good fundraiser, two things that could serve UAH and the hockey program well. Hopefully Dr. Portera will defer any decisions himself, and allow Dr. Altenkirch to make his own decision, espeically in light of the efforts to date by the fans & alumni.

Don't hold your breath. Potera's set to do the dirty deed and then skip town.

Bit sketched out about providing my address, etc. What is and isn't visible and to whom?

The only information shown publicly on the petition is your name, your city and state, and any comment you want to make.

As for your change.org account, you can set how public your profile (which basically just has what causes/petitions you've signed) can be: public, members only, or friends only. I don't know of any other address information shown publicly.

Re: UAH Hockey is on the precipice. Please tell our President to step off.

Is the announcement coming soon?

Given the three articles on AL.com that were posted over on saveuahhockey, I expect that come mid-october the plug on D-I is going to be pulled officially. I'm still highly skeptical of the numbers they're quoting particularly when it comes to the travel and conference costs. This will be on the heads of not only Portera and his cronies, but the entire administrative Division I hockey community. I.e. the conference heads, college administrators, and athletic directors who didn't make a peep as we go down in flames like Wayne State and Kent State, and why? Because they're refusing to stick their heads out of their shell far enough to see that the axe blade that culls us is the same one that will make increasingly closer sweeps to each of them as the power, like football, is siphoned off and curried into a handful of teams.

*Yes, I'm ticked off.*

Re: UAH Hockey is on the precipice. Please tell our President to step off.

Comparing costs of a D-II softball team to D-1 hockey. Really?

Everything Portera says points to UAH D-1 Hockey being canned.

Re: UAH Hockey is on the precipice. Please tell our President to step off.

As I understand it now, Bowen has a meeting with Portera on Oct 18 to present what amounts to a business plan for funding hockey. Portera is also supposed to go to Denver to meet with McLeod upon one of their return from Africa??? I didn't get which one is out of country... The AD says of the conference problem, everything is waiting on Notre Dame?!?! who is expected to make a decision around Oct 7th??? Who actually knows... I don't know. Just passing on what I've heard. Take it for what its worth...

Re: UAH Hockey is on the precipice. Please tell our President to step off.

I hope the fans in Huntsville come out and fill the VBC this weekend against Lake Superior.

Re: UAH Hockey is on the precipice. Please tell our President to step off.

This needs to come back to the front page!

I admit I haven't been reading the UAH thread, but any news on the campaign? Now that Notre Dame's joined Hockey East, if the HEA takes in a 12th team, would it be possible for UAH to take the spot that opens up in another conference?

It sounds like the first two choices are RPI or Quinnipiac, both ECAC members. The unlikely option is UConn, which would open a spot in Atlantic Hockey which UAH could potentially fill.

Right, but the trickle-down effect would be that that 12th spot in the ECAC would be filled with someone from the AHA (RIT or Holy Cross, respectively are the two rumors that keep getting thrown around most frequently). Then, a spot in the AHA opens which could be filled by UAH. The question is, is UAH being considered for that (possible) spot?

Neither REDaero nor myself have the inside knowledge to know what's happening down in Alabama, which is why we're posing the question.
