UAH Hockey 2020-21

Anything happening in Huntsville related to future D-I hockey? What is the talk among the locals now-a-days? It seems to be sadly really quiet in AL when it comes to D-I hockey.

I hope some UAH fans are watching Talbot versus Woodcroft tonight. Minnesota is leading Edmonton 4-0 with 4:00 left in the second.

Talbot was kind of in a funk after the All Star Break until the Wild picked up Fleury. That tandem is fun to watch.

Watching Talbot in college, I would have never guessed I would see him as a pro goalie. But he has really taken every opportunity and made the most out of it. Congrats to him!

GO WILD!

UAH is not giving up and hoping for a new conference somehow.

I will be absolutely shocked if Huntsville plays another D1 game within the next 20 years. There are 5 independents playing this upcoming season. Huntsville has made a name for themselves the past few seasons, showing a lack of desire to make hockey happen. Only way they are going to change that is to play games, independently.

Short of a drastic change in either (a) the travel subsidy offered by UAH or (b) the CCHA’s desire for that to matter, I don’t see that as an option.

IMO, the only options are:
  • AHA splinters and the western half (filled with mostly old CHA and 90’s D-II foes) wants UAH
  • Tennessee State, Liberty, High Point University, Kennesaw State, and/or who knows who else all decide to go for it at the same time
  • UAH figures that this many independents at once is workable.

Like the idea that UAH has proposed here, but certainly a lot of 'ifs and buts' to overcome. I'm a 'kato fan and enjoyed my two trips to UAH some years back. I sent them money during their pledge campaign (as I also did for Anchorage) Its a shame they aren't playing but understand their geographic and financial predicaments. Lindenwood's startup this fall should provide some inertia in the right direction.

I think UAH hockey is a case of the chicken and the egg. Do they bring the team back once they obtain conference membership or does a conference need to see a team before they are considered for membership. I think it is the later. As many have pointed out, there hasn't been a better time to play as an independent than the next couple years present. Plenty of teams floating around that will be looking for games all season long. It won't be great travel wise, but that's always been the case for UAH so they really can't use that as excuse. UAH really needs to get back on the ice before they are going to find a conference that takes them seriously. They have unfortunately made other teams uneasy with their "We're in... we're out... we're in... we're out... we want to be in..." existence in recent years.

Huntsville has literally dropped hockey THREE TIMES. What conference in their right mind would accept them blindly when they refuse to play right now? I feel for the fans, but seriously. Stick a fork in it already.

True. Play or don't play. Sh-t or get off the pot.
