UAH Hockey 2015-16: The next step

Re: UAH Hockey 2015-16: The next step

The result was nice, but the team is capable of a lot better than they played. White, Block, and Soquila being in the lineup should have sent a message to the team: don't play hard/smart and you're gonna sit.

I haven't heard anything about Gosselin, and all I've heard on Guerriero is the nature of the injury, not the severity.

I'll be out of town this week (and working all weekend on midnights next week, yay!), but I'll try to tag up with the coaches during my "weekend" before they head to play the *** Hawks.

I'm sorry Geoff, but I completely disagree. I thought they played quite well and executed the system well.I'd bet the coach was happy with it.
Guerriero limped off in the third period on friday after being run into by cc, ( with no call) and it looked bad. I'd bet it's several weeks before he is back.

And they didn't make the one mistake that snowballed any chance to win. In recent games, it seemed the Chargers were expecting that mistake (I got to the point where I was).

We're going to miss Guerriero for a while, but fortunately Larose has been playing well (35 saves last night). I'd love it if Guerriero came back when WCHA play resumes against Alaska on Jan. 8 (we need that series bad).

Penalty kill was good again last night. UAH has now killed 32 straight power plays and has not allowed a power play goal in eight games.

Re: UAH Hockey 2015-16: The next step

I think my sense of frustration is really palpable for the last few weeks, but man, they were really pretty good last night, considering their competition, and you know what? That was the first time that UAH has been shut out this year.

Another solid effort and I'm going to be feeling much better coming into next week's action.

I'm glad we watched all of that one from the comfort of home! We had originally considered arriving at the end of the second intermission, but that would have really been disgusting. The announcers were very complimentary of everything Huntsville and UAH though; they made watching it a pleasure in spite of the results. They were also quick to notice that the Chargers use their power plays as chances to get some rest. They attempted to explain how UAH wasn't going to ever be able to score on power plays if they don't hustle. It was striking how lazy much of the team looked on TV for much of the game.

The power play is an absolute mess, and my gosh, if they're using power plays to rest than we're in deeper trouble than I originally thought.

Re: UAH Hockey 2015-16: The next step

Poor special teams, disastrous decision-making. Defensemen need to be willing to forego superhuman efforts to keep the puck in the zone. I'm tired of Carmine and Matt having to stop 2-on-1 and 2-on-0 breakaways.

There has been a major lack of energy/hustle/urgency on the power play all year. As the commentators noted, taking time to set-up only gives your opposition more time to respond and runs time off the penalty.

Re: UAH Hockey 2015-16: The next step

Game isn't over yet so I hope I don't have to eat my words, but how bout Matt LaRose! Made some huge saves tonight. He's a bit aggressive on his side to side pushes leading him to get out of position at times, yet always seems to make the save. Been fun to watch.

Re: UAH Hockey 2015-16: The next step

Matt was very good tonight, and I expect that he's earned the start tomorrow night if Coach feels that he's up for the back-to-back.

I didn't get to watch (I was driving to my parents'), but all I need to know is that Sauns took another major. I mean, he took 17 PIM before the 15-minute mark. Roughing the goalie? That's just a sign of irresponsible play. And he hasn't been lighting it up since a hot start, either. That hot start was great to see, because it looked like he was putting it together, but ... where did that go?

Getting outshot 2:1 is shades of last season. That won't cut it.

Kesty with a goal is nice.

I'm guessing Guerriero got the start either because Corbett is committed to the rotation until one of them just grabs the reins, or he didn't think that Larose would be able to bounce back for another night of the shooting gallery after playing his butt off on Friday. Either way.

It's really frustrating, and at this point, the boys are probably going to miss the playoffs in a season where I thought that they had a legitimate chance at scuffling through the middle of the league to chase home ice. I admittedly underestimated Northern.

There's no doubt since about week three or four Saulnier has lacked his scoring touch. I really like Brears and McHugh together. I would like to see either Gorowsky or Poulsen paired up with them on the first line, I really like how hard Poulsen plays. I didn't see what happened last night, missed the first period but watched the rest of the game. Guerriero didn't play bad, one goal was defected off of Fletcher from the point on the PP and got past Guerriero. Defensively they haven't supported Guerriero, gave up a few odd man rushes. Overall this has been a huge dissapointment. I really thought this team was going to make tremendous strides but it's been anything but that. I know I can't be the only one who isn't pleased with how this team is playing or the direction it's moving forward.

Re: UAH Hockey 2015-16: The next step

Congrats to Cam Talbot! I love seeing him do so well. He was always calm under pressure. Gotta love any goalie who "owns" his goal.
