UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

Yeah, this is it. Sorry for not being more clear.

Interesting, tho the article did have one error - Matt Shaw has been a HC before in the ECHL and UHL. Of their current staff, Stevens and Terrei have no previous HC experience.

Of UAH's remaining staff, wouldn't Garber's experience give him an edge over Morgan?

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

Williams didn't have success in D3? Are you serious? He turned the worst program in all of the NCAA into a national championship contender in under 2 years?! The program is still among the best in D3 currently because of the foundation he set and the atmosphere he created! He also got to work with Danton Cole while at UAH as an assistant, not bad! His time at BG and stint as HC is not a fair representation of his abilities as that program was in serious turmoil before he even got there. His work in Amarillo fits the pattern of his success and how could you not want him in Alabama? He's turned an expansion team based out of AMARILLO TEXAS into a Jr. hockey power house in 3 years! Makes total sense!

Do you think he is a candidate?

I can't see any reason he wouldn't be. He is an experienced coach who has had success. However, his experience over the past several years is limited. I think he'll get a look, but I'm not sure how strong of consideration he will get. I think it is key that UAH get an experienced recruiter.

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

That's a fair point I can respect but let's be honest, he was moving up the ladder every single time so how can you fault a guy? Who wouldn't leave D3 for D1? Who wouldn't have left UAH (at that time) for BGSU in the CCHA (also his alma mater?) He also didn't leave BGSU because he wanted too and probably could have left Amarillo for greener pastures after last season if that's what he wanted.

Anyways, he'd be my choice! Hope whoever it is can stabilize the program and start building it up!

May the best man win, I like MaCabe. He Alabama hockey culture which has been hard for all the coaches after Ross

What exactly do you know about Alabams hockey culture, besides what you've read online? How many games have you been to in Alabama? How much time have you spent there?

Re: UAH Hockey 2012-13: Still breathing

Stopped by the Hockey Office today and yes, the AD's phone has been ringing, meanwhile Kurt has been doing exit interviews with the media... they were lined up waiting for him.:D

Submitted my foursome for the rapidly approaching "2013 Frenchy Open" UAH golf tournament. If you'd like to join in there are still a few spots open. The usual ringers (you know who you are) are again playing so our strategy this year may be to see if we can come in last!!! There's always a prize for that, never a prize for finishing upper middle of the pack. Anyway, it's always loads of fun and the Hampton Cove Highlands course is quite challenging on most holes. Accuracy pays off more than dista

I've been in the Alabama hockey culture for 33 years and I can say for sure that McCabe knows the local hockey culture... that's not to say there aren't others but he certainly knows it.

"Alabama hockey culture" is a fun thing to say, no matter how long you've been around it. :D

The thing is, having spent many years in Alabama, working in Birmingham in the ECHL and having been to many games in Huntsville, people up in the Great White North would be amazed at how much of a "hockey culture" there is. Once college football was over, we averaged 8000 on weekend nights. And I've seen 10,000 plus on many occasions, including one night over 15,000! It helped to have an owner who was a master at promotion!

I know several of the old WHA Bulls and CHL Stars and they all speak fondly of their time there and quite a few still live there. Huntsville did a great job for many years at both the college and minor pro level. It's nice to see that Keith Jeffries has brought stability to the pro franchise and hopefully the move to the WCHA will put UAH back on solid ground for years to come.

Well, Keith is doing a great job when he's not whining to our NBC affiliate about not getting first cut on arena dates.

Alabama culture is it anything like Minnesota. We have Gordon Bombay. The Mighty Ducks coach.

You can make your comments, but I'm proud to have been part of it. There's a lot of terrific hockey fans in the great state if Alabama that are every bit as knowledgeable and passionate as those up north.
