UAH Dog Days of Summer 2010: All By Myself....

Re: UAH Dog Days of Summer 2010: All By Myself....

While looking through all the screens on the uscho website, I noticed that UAH is nowhere to be found under the "Standings" heading. Apparently, there is a blank CHA subheading and Bemidji et al. are in their respective conferences. Wonder if our Chargers will get their own subheading, or included under the sorry "Independent" subheading, or perhaps forgotten altogether. Even the drop down from the D-I Men heading still includes the old CHAers in one conference. Will UAH get its own heading once uscho.com gets its act together? Feh.

My guess is that we will fall under a "D1 Independents" heading.

I spoke with USCHO's Todd Milewski about it, and they're not sure yet. That said, I'm probably going to be the UAH correspondent by default.

Mike, "DI Independents" ust irks me... sigh.

I kind of get the feeling the HE team will be Vermont; the guys nearly pulled off an upset at the Catamount Tourney last year, and perhaps they are willing to pay us back for the trip up north.

Re: UAH Dog Days of Summer 2010: All By Myself....

Geof,

Did you ask him about CHA as in College Hockey Alabama? :D ;)

The "Frenchy Open" (UAH Hockey Golf Tournament) is this Saturday and the weatherman is calling for near 100 degree days this weekend!!! I better not spend much time on the driving range or I'll run out of gas on the back nine...

Where's the Margarita Girl???

As much as it might, it's who we are for the moment. Better to own it, I say.

I just can't wait for us to pick up a 21-win season and **** off some [insert conference] fans when we get in as an at-large. :)

Re: UAH Dog Days of Summer 2010: All By Myself....

Preliminary rumblings are that we'll just get lumped in with the CCHA column. Maybe folks at the home office will take the hint? ;)

Re: UAH Dog Days of Summer 2010: All By Myself....

I can't help but wonder if this Big 10 expansion football issue might somehow impact the CCHA in some fashion. Honestly, I have no idea how it might, but I have seen excuses as to the lack of Charger support for membership based upon the looming possibility of a Big 10 hockey conference. Money being a much much bigger issue with football, of course, but might winds of change may be blowing beyond the gridiron here?

Notre Dame joining the Big Televen ... wait, can't make that joke anymore ... could, theoretically, push the BTHC into being---IF you believe, of course, that the BT bylaws require that, if six league schools play a sport, they have to play it together in the same league. I'm curious to know if those bylaws will change now that they're at 12 teams.

In other hockey news, UAH landed Cody Dion, a Colorado Springs kid who's played in the AJHL the last couple of years. Big kid, centers, pops about a point per game. With Järvinen and Coburn leaving, this now make three freshman centers coming in for two slots [Cseter and Ruffini being the returning centers]. Dion is purported to be good on the draw, so maybe he'll stick there instead of moving to a wing and parking himself in front of the goal---something UAH hasn't had in a long time.

I'm still trying to decide if I'm going. I don't golf, so it would mainly be to shoot photos and the breeze. Normally I would heckle, too, but I'm not going to heckle if Shane Stewart hands me a club and asks me to do better.

Re: UAH Dog Days of Summer 2010: All By Myself....

Have to wonder if the (former) Big Ten and the (former) Big 12 will now switch names (unless, of course, the former Big 10 adds 4 other schools). Hard to see Notre Dame finally making the plunge in football, but I agree with Geof that if that happens the BTHC would be an apparent result. Who knows? UAH may actually end up back in conference with Bemidji in a few years (expecting Minnesota and Wisconsin, at least, leaving the WCHA, and Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and Notre Dame, at least, leaving the CCHA; I could even foresee the possible BTHC trying to recruit North Dakota and one of the Alaska teams, if not UNO and Denver, as well, ostensibly for money reasons, leaving the CCHA with 6 or 7 teams and the WCHA with 6 or 7teams. The remaining 14 teams might then create their own conference.) I know, crazy speculation, but what else is this forum for?

You should have come, this is the one event that I leave the camera at home for so I can play. If you were there taking photos I might actually be in one for a change.:D ;)

Stewie, as usual, was ready to play long before the T-time. It's good to see some people never seem to lose their zest for fun!!!:D

It was like old home week in the clubhouse as players from all eras were there having a good time. Jared was there along with several from his teams. Some of the recent past players that were there included Jessie Otis, Steve Canter, Matt Sweazey, Sean Arvai, Dave Slifka, and many many others. I was teamed up with Dave and his dad for a fun day of golfing and sweating in the heat.

Anyone who likes a little golf, a brew or two, and some great people need to make plans to come on out for next year's Frenchy Open!!!

Man, I should have come out if for no other reason than to congratulate Canter on getting married.

And Doug, does Otis keep his golf gear never-dried-out like his hockey gear? I don't even want to know what it took to get his locker to stop stinking after his eligibility was up.

Re: UAH Dog Days of Summer 2010: All By Myself....

Add in the home games vs. Providence on November 12 and 13. Also the mystery guest is not UMass either.
From their blog:The major bit of information I got was that unfortunately the rumored game at Madison Square Garden is not happening. Putting a few pieces of the puzzle together it appears that it would’ve been a double header with Northeastern taking on Niagara and UMass playing Army. Northeastern and Niagara will instead by playing each other in Hartford while the Black Knights will be visiting Amherst in early November. That makes the non-conference schedule set with the two games at Minnesota to kick off the season, two at Wisconsin to end the calendar year, and home games against Yale, Quinnipiac, and Army.

Down to 5 Hockey East teams left!!

Re: UAH Dog Days of Summer 2010: All By Myself....

Eliminate UMass-Lowell as they already have 6 OOC games and this called for a pair in Huntsville. Still left BC,BU, Vermont and Merrimack. Unless the BC involvement in either the GLI or Dartmouth tournament at years end does not take place you can scratch them too as they play 2 in Denver and 2
in the Beanpot as well.
