Re: UAA Seawolves offseason thread- time for change

GFM,

How would you categorize the Vebraun center? I can't rememeber UAH arena exact name. I saw pictures and it looks really nice. I live in Shreveport, I might drive out there to see the Seawolves play UAH in Jan 14. Looks like a big arena!

The Von Braun Center (named after Wernher von Braun, the reason that the US had a space program) is nice upstairs and aging below the concourses. It's an old building, but they've done some nice refreshes to the concourse.

Shouldn't be but about eight hours from Shreveport. I'm sorry that you'll have to drive through Mississippi to get there. I lived in an I-20 town in my teens and, uh, didn't like it.

New goalie recruit. Oliver mantha from pentiction in the bchl

Twenty-year-old Olivier Mantha and Hunter Miska, 18, will join the club. Mantha spent the past three seasons playing college hockey in Quebec at Laflèche College in Trois-Rivières. He appeared in 75 games for the Dragons and was named a league All-Star in 2012 and 2013. The La Tuque, Que. product was second in save-percentage this past season and received a student-excellence award in 2012 while earning a science diploma. Mantha was a standout at the Vees spring camp where he made a lasting impression on the Vees coaches and scouts.

Sounds like a solid recruit!

Former aces and nhler Barrett heisten signs on as assistant volunteer coach, if I remember correctly he played at Maine and probably around the time coach Thomas was there

Barrett is a class act and a very valuable addition to the coaching staff.
His Alaska connections, college and pro experience should add something special to our program.
Coach is doing a great job of improving our program.
It appears to me he is the real deal.
It's a great day to be a Seawolf!

Wonderful news. This is so good to hear! Barrett played at Maine for two years, 98-99 and 99-2000. Thomas was the assistant coach at Maine from 2000 to 2002.

Can someone explain the "it's a great day to be a Seawolf" thing to me? Is it serious, sarcastic, or a little of both?

GFM

Trite is the word that comes to my mind...

New coach, new AD (soon), new direction all around. How about a new slogan? Oh, and a new mascot...

You forgot the Fight song , change school colors, a new U A president , about 10,000 more dorms , a recreation center for 20.000 students , 3 or 4 parking garages and if have money left over a ice arena.

Aren't we just needy... I don't think we need a new slogan, it works.

Yea, don't want to ask for TOO much... After 30 years of watching the Woofies through the highs and lows, I'd be very happy with some bigger numbers in the W column.

Unfortunately, I'll be watching from afar from here on out 'cuz I'm moving out of state just before the season starts. Hope they go nuts this year and light it up, but my pre-season optimism has been dashed so many times recently, I try not to get too excited this early anymore.

Yeah I'm the same way. I'm excited for them but I'm not getting my hopes up for a quick turnaround.
