UAA: Patiently Waiting For Next Season, Every Season...

Re: UAA: Patiently Waiting For Next Season, Every Season...

So where will the team be practicing, at least their Captain's practices?

They are skating at O’Malley a couple times a week.

For those of you who do Facebook, there are some good pics of the Farg that were posted today:

Had to dress up in "winter attire" to get a sneak preview of the current Fargo remodel ....... pretty nice digs but not like the Dak Rats remodel with 2 imported chef's catering up Poutine and Timbits.

The Alaska Aces Facebook page has a picture of installed balcony seats at the Sully.

Thoughts? I am not impressed. Not padded, no cup holders. And the color gray just blends in with the cement color. Better than the red, but come on, they could have done better than this!

I absolutely dislike it. But it is typical Anchorage. Seats look like Barf color and all the things they said like padded seats and cup holders did not materialize. We just need a new arena on campus. That is bottom line.

Ugly, ugly. Alaska & Hawaii have the worst big stadiums in their respective states. Worst color choices too, google Aloha Stadium's new seats. Gray is terrible, may look better when the arena is empty. For the padded seats, aren't they supposed to be in the lower bowl between the blue lines? Cup holders on the lower bowl as well? Idk, perhaps they should've just cleaned the old seats and painted new colors ahaha.

I think you're right about the padded seats w/ cup holders being in the lower bowl, between the blue lines. Maybe when the wine colored seats are in it will blend nicely together and look better. But right now it looks like they bought seats that were on closeout.

I wish they would've gone with the dark green seats that they had on display as a sample last year. As far as the gray, I'd like them better if they were a little darker. Still.. anything is better than the yellow/orange/red (especially yellow) filthy, dirty, 30-something year old seats they're replacing!!

Hopefully once the padded wine-colored seats are installed, the gray will look better? :o

For those who watch channel 2 news, they are interviewing David Tuttle on Tuesday evening. Be sure to catch it.

Just watched him. He did a great job!! :)

That's what I am hoping for too. I agree a dark gray would look better. Now the light gray just blends in with the concrete, it looks like a concrete cave.

I heard from someone who actually saw the seats, and they said the cup holders are on the backs of the seats.

The Grey seats are definitely ugly in color. From the looks of it, they aren't very different than the ones at CenturyLink in Seattle, especially with cup holders in front.

Well it is still an ugly color. I guess it is a moot point for UAA since they cover the seats in the balcony for the games. So, I guess it won't matter.

What's the radio situation this season? How do I not know this already?

Re: UAA: Patiently Waiting For Next Season, Every Season...

Who spec'd and bought the seats? The Muni? That should put to rest any more questions. We don't have any money, those are the low bidder results ladies and gentlemen.

They could have put in some "airbanks wide body” planks if they really wanted to go low-priced. Of course then they would have just drilled a hole for a drink receptacle.

Re: UAA: Patiently Waiting For Next Season, Every Season...

Got an encouraging email from coach Thomas today. Since he asks that we "spread the word", I am posting it here for those who may not have received the email.

To All Youth Hockey Organizations:

Seawolf Hockey is hoping to better connect with area youth hockey players at the newly renovated Wells Fargo Sport Center on the Campus of UAA. Monday nights from 5:30pm-6:30pm we will be hosting skills development camps. Based on our practice/ class schedules and youth hockey schedules, the camps will be held from 9/21/15 to 11/23/15 and a second session stretching from 1/4/16 to 2/29/16 (excluding 1/18/16).

Please pass this flyer on to the families in your program. We are hoping to give youth hockey players another chance to skate each week and work closely with our Student-Athletes on shooting and puck handling skills. The desire is to have more interaction between the young hockey players (boys and girls) of Alaska and our Division-I athletes. All participants should be at an age and skill level where they can skate, shoot and stickhandle while following directions in a group setting.

Excellent, excellent idea! Matt Thomas "gets" it. :)
