UAA Hockey Offseason

I would say the first weekend back in the Sullivan went well! I was watching on YouTube and it looked like a pretty good crowd.
And since the GNAC is going behind a paywall, there should no longer be a free broadcast for hockey, I'd hate to say it but SouthCentral should be blackedout if streaming gets moved to a new platform. We need butts in seats.

It is a bit strange that UAA is the only team to stream their games on YouTube. Seems like a missed revenue opportunity to sell broadcasting rights. Just please don't switch to FloHockey, their production is terrible and expensive.

Lindenwood coming up in a hot minute, be good to see how the boys react to the host arena for the UCHCup. Still waiting on the tourney bracket/set-up...

Spilt! Having Dimitry is soo important to our team, day dreaming if we had Cole and Anderson as well. If we have to play Lindenwood in a few weeks I feel better about our chances.

Seeing two signed recruits with USHL experience is encouraging, just listened to the CHI podcast with the head coaches from Stonehill and Lindenwood. Not really worth a listen and no word yet on the seeding.

A massive D effort in the first seemed to empty the tank too fast, good answers by UAA to counter UA_ goals. I think having Cole and Anderson back might have been a little too much jumbling of roles and situations. Hoping for a Saturday bounce back.

I really don't like the last few captains from UA_, dirty and celebrating on the bench when getting away with things. Not to say we are a clean playing team, but usually we are cleaner than the other team. UA_'s coach still has less command of his team. UAA players were more responsive to get off the ice after a final shot at the whistle from a Seawolf, UA_ not soo much. Just like the Helegson glass "incident".

Stay mad.

Pretty piss heavy 3rd period, still don't like the games at the Sully. Pretty heavy handed thinking from the UAA coaches about getting an on ice arena. We are stuck in the Sully, head coach seems to think fan interest/donors won't dwindle with losing at home, he's gonna have to learn that the hard way. 5 to 25 years of nothing really changing, but it appears Maryville is moving up so we might have a conference here soon.

The Governors Cup has been awarded to Fairbanks for the 12th* consecutive year.

With the series already decided, we now head back to Fairbanks for two games. Scheduling eight games when the Cup is awarded to the first team to four wins seems unnecessarily drawn out.

Well if UAA played better....it's the reality of Independent scheduling, cheaper to fly or bus in state than CC or Air Force-those are the closest D1 teams? It'll be less of a problem if Maryville is "allowed" to be the 6th "D1" member so we can form a conference, that might be another reason why UAH ain't coming back.

I get that having Cole and Anderson back is better for this weekend and the UCHCup, but I swear UAA played better without them. Also not having Contreras Saturday didn't help, though I wasn't particularly impressed with him Friday.

What are you talking about? 🤨
Oh my bad, I might've confused you with an equally annoying UA_ fan on Twitter. You all look the same to me teehee

Any chance UAA plays the entire season at Sullivan next year? Gotta think it would help them get teams to fly up for games if they are at a legit D1 venue.

From my understanding, this year was a 'trial run' to see how games could look back in the Sullivan. If UAA hockey wants to grow, logically I think it makes sense to stay in the Sullivan. Branding/Advertisements, more ticket sales, and better chance of scheduling opponents is going to improve financials and encourage recruitment.

The challenge is going to be winning games at home, otherwise the crowd is going to look like it did during the pre-covid days.

This was the plan all along after the on campus new arena fell through, hence my moaning about nothing has changed, in reality things are worse as we don't have a conference and the new age transfer portal. Shasby's winning percentage is similar to other coaches, the tp will wreck our teams after a good season, we need a break aka some lucky bounces.

Certain members have wanted to kill the hockey program for over a decade, I went to the public hearing of cutting all sports back in 2013/14? State has no money, oil and gas companies get paid by the state, talks of no PFD this year (been dipping into if for years to balance the state budget), and our governor kept/keeps slashing funding for the whole university system, if it wasn't for JBER the state would've had a smaller population than the year before. It is pretty doom and gloom. There is no ice in the 100 million dollar, 5000 seat AAC, UAA is lucky to have 1000 (similar average attendance to the Sports Complex) people show up for BB and VB thinking they could full D1 and cut hockey, they've sowed these seeds long ago from a fiscally responsible side of politics.

It's one step forward for our program but two steps back, there are plenty of former UAA players that are in the Wolverines program, I wonder why...

I think that's why I'm soo passionate about this team, they are always the underwolf. Even against their own university.
