Should’ve put money on it back in January…I think its time to take a look at our coaching staff during this upcoming offseason. I have no ill-intentions towards coach Shasby, but with the current record being 3-18-1 (and overall 32-77-9), he really doesn't have me excited about the future.
I like that Shasby grew up in Alaska, played for UAA, and has experience with the local high schools. However, his lack of ability to recruit, rally his players, and ultimately win games is frustrating.
Moreover, Fairbanks has their coach, Erik Largen (currently 7-14-2, overall 100-96-23), signed through 2028.
Be careful what you wish for, the teams have been pretty stagnant since joining the WCHA, doesn't appear to matter who the coach is, at least with Shasby you knew what you were getting.Should’ve put money on it back in January…
I've worked with one engineering firm that worked primarily with architects, there are steps in the design process. Though over there it was 30, 75, and 90 % all before final approval at 100%. This is by no means a guarantee that a new arena is green lit, the process is just beginning after some low level renderings. Even if it was green light I wouldn't fathom an opening day until after 2030.“Fans will hear more about the effort to build a new hockey arena later this off-season. Next steps include working with the university to:
The plans will be submitted to the University of Alaska Board of Regents for formal project approval.”
- bring the construction plans to 35% completion,
- develop the new arena business plan, and
- develop the new arena revenue plan.
What exactly does “bring the construction plans to 35% completion” mean? They have renderings, an idea of where it will be, and a firm they are working with. If the remaining 65% is asking the board of regents for $60 million to build it than just say that.
I would hope they do a national search for a new coach. An Eric Lang-type guy would do well here I suspect.
