UAA Hockey Offseason

cheating has no rewards got to toss in the "Cheater Years" mommy cant fix that ....

add them in and have about the same sad win / loss as basketball x 2 74-30. 85-24. and volleyball 80-40 if didnt cheat would be close . you are right
10 games were affected. Which would make the record 93-82-16. Which if uaa had actually fielded a team in 2021-22 the number would likely be even closer.

I think its time to take a look at our coaching staff during this upcoming offseason. I have no ill-intentions towards coach Shasby, but with the current record being 3-18-1 (and overall 32-77-9), he really doesn't have me excited about the future.

I like that Shasby grew up in Alaska, played for UAA, and has experience with the local high schools. However, his lack of ability to recruit, rally his players, and ultimately win games is frustrating.

Moreover, Fairbanks has their coach, Erik Largen (currently 7-14-2, overall 100-96-23), signed through 2028.

He's safe, having his son on the team makes him doubly safe. Perhaps after a full bad season at the Sully he might be on the hot seat, but I'm not seeing it. Who would even apply, would they be better? Man this argument feels old. Injuries have ravaged our season, goaltending took a dive after looking like they were all gonna turn a corner last season. His staff are local or played here, he's got the right ingredients to boost crowd attendance, local ties to recruiting, he almost was .500 in his second season and we got picked apart by the bigger schools.

UAA needs more donors, big ones, to be back in the Sully, a conference, and then we can worry about complaining about the coach.

I'd vote for a new goaltending coach before getting rid of Shasby, but I'm not even sure if our current "volunteer" tendy coach is paid, so same argument. We need donors, slap your mama big ones.

maybe upgrade campus life to compare with uaf and few other fixes would attract better students

they should've did that while aflush with oil and gas money, but nooooo, and then no ice in the AAC that can barely house a 1/5 of what it can hold for BB and VB. Back a $ s words university.

You can thank Gov Sarah Louise Palin's veto for that , and your for Alaska Legislature for not overriding the veto after approving it.

As for no on campus ice they had to down size and Hockey had the Sully.

show me the paperwork on only 10 games
It’s not that difficult, all you have to do is look at the results from 2010-2012 and 2018-2020 on either teams website. Seawolves website says the games were forfeited and the Nanooks website has no score for those games.

As a seawolf fan and 15 years without the cup, I would use results on the court to make me feel better too.

Good question…however, most people look at a University’s academic reputation first so very few people stay interested enough to dig deeper and ever find out.

Tell your friend that the Nanooks have eleven NCAA national team tiles in their display case and I believe the Sourdough/Seawoves have a combined zero. Some would say that is not really an honest statement. I agree, but it would be rather rude to point out that Alaska Hockey doesn’t really have any friends!

PS – I forgot how much fun trolling UAA is.

Go Nooks!

Curious what lead to Potter's play tonight, but he looked lazy and disinterested after storming off the ice at the end of the 1st. He should be benched for tonight's game.

Props to UA_ for capitalizing on opportunities and looking like they belonged on international size ice. 7-2 in points now I believe for the Governor's Cup.

I did like seeing some fight back and some real effort at times, especially at the start of the 2nd and 3rd by UAA.

But, piss poor performance all around, this is not how you try to endear yourselves to a hockey community that was already has a winning team, in a league that allows fighting, and has miles ahead of good will already built in.

We brought the Seawolves back, but they are back where they were.

We need major donors.

The Range Rats did good as Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines but only one title in last 15 years .
But in the mean time UA_ got its' ass kicked once more by little sister.
keep it up and you will never catch up.

Barely noticed Potter last night which is a good thing. UAA I supposed had to pay some dues moving back to the Sully. I still don't like the move, terrible atmosphere, terrible parking, but the beer lines moved quick, if there were even lines. Meh.

Friday in the Box Score attendance was listed as 2612, now it's 4k+. Classic in building versus tickets "sold", UAA is moving back to the Sully. Scheduling has to change, there needs to be more winnable games at home, otherwise attendance both ways is gonna dip fast. UAA needs to have more branding in arena, a Swickard Classic needs to be revived hehe.

Having Dimitry back was pivotal in Saturday's win, he does soo many things on the ice, noticeable or not. Aiden scoring the GWG where he made his mark as a Wolverine, chefs kiss, couldn't write a better ending.

2612 seemed quite low on Friday for the size of the crowd, not sure how they came up with that number. I enjoyed the atmosphere inside the building, minus the bugs that needed worked out, but it actually felt like the governors cup again.
The system outside is what was crazy, having one door open with long lines outside. Is that how they do it for Wolverines games? And leaving on Friday night we sat there for 20 minutes without anyone moving before finally backing up to get out on A street.

Was this a try it out for Gov Cup or is there a plan to fully move back to the Sullivan?

I'd say 2612 was right, the lower bowl was more that half full, upper stands maybe 1/3 full, kinda the same Saturday night. The Wolverines games are smoother in getting in, both doors open the entire time, and more people have the boogie entrance passes. Probably just the kinks. Yeah getting out has always been a pain, I never try and leave onto the highway.

No new campus arena for the foreseeable future, more tickets can be sold in the Sully, and more given away. The attendance and tickets "sold" this weekend proved they can make more money. Too bad it's a 43 year old not steep, drawn out seating arena with maybe 500 parking spots with no amenities nearby, except of course the Crazy Horse (under new management-give it a shot). Since we're not gonna get an arena for the next decade or two, the last few rows in the upper stands need to be ripped out and put in some "luxury" boxes. Reduce the seating capacity, rip out the owner boxes (how are those not against modern fire codes?) and install more tables so there's an option for people to stand, keep the beer garden as well.

And our coach needs to understand that loosing at home is not gonna keep fans interested and keep the program afloat, I didn't see some regulars this weekend.
