I did a quick look around to see if there is any indication that Weidauer won't be coming. I saw none. His twitter account is active (last post june 11th) and nothing there to indicate he isn't coming. I find nothing else anywhere that wasn't already on the net about him. My guess is that he isn't a "signed" recruit and therefore the staff didn't mention him in that article for that reason.

If I'm not mistaken, LOI's aren't "official" if the player is past a certain age. Also Weidauer may have signed one with Niagara a couple of years ago so that could "invalidate" whatever one he signed with UAA. I'm just guessing that it's something along those lines that kept him from being discussed. Least that's what I'm hoping.

I hope you're right, BUT ... I've never heard that about the LOI not being official if a player is past a certain age, however. But I believe he only gave Niagara a verbal commitment. He signed his LOI with UAA in January, he is a signed recruit DD.

Thomas finalizes incoming class with Conti

ANCHORAGE – Head coach Matt Thomas finalized his 2014-15 Alaska Anchorage incoming class Wednesday with the addition of Anthony Conti, giving UAA eight rookies for the 35th year of Seawolf hockey.
Conti, a local of Vancouver, B.C., joins the Green & Gold after splitting time with the BCHL’s Surrey Eagles and Penticton Vees. He combined for 16-27—43 totals during the 2013-14 season in 55 games played. Conti also led the Eagles in the playoffs with seven points in six games.
A year before, the 6-3, 205-pound forward dressed for Vancouver Northwest of the BCMML, where he helped the Giants to the team crown as one of the league’s top scorers with 18-30—48 totals in 35 games.
"Anthony is going to be someone that is simply going to get better and better each day he is at UAA,” said assistant coach Josh Ciocco, “He will come into our program at just 18 years old and already has NHL size. Not only is he big, but he's got sneaky good hockey sense and is absolutely fearless.”
Conti joins classmates Austin Azurdia, Tad Kozun, Matt Anholt, Tanner Johnson, Jarrett Brown, Olivier Mantha, and Jared D'Amico.
The Seawolves commence the 2014-15 slate on Oct. 4 with an exhibition game again Western Ontario, before hosting Maine and Wisconsin for the annual Kendall Hockey Classic at the Sullivan Arena, Oct. 10-1

Unfortunate. Weidauer woulda been a nice addition. Whatever it was that kept him out of Niagara must have kept him out of UAA. Probably some "clearinghouse" issue which is why nobody is mentioning it.

Let's hope Ciocco is right here. Everyone says he knows players. D1 is a big step for an 18 year old.

Just reviewing the upcoming roster and thought I'd take a stab at identifying players that I think will for sure be on the ice for the first game (barring injury etc).

Forwards:
Scott Allen; Blake Tatchell; Brett Cameron; Brad Duwe; Hudson Friesen

Defense:
Austin Coldwell; Derek Docken; Blake Leask; Austin Sevalrud; Chris Williams; Chase Van Allen

Goalie:
Not gonna guess.

Up front as I see it there are 7 openings. Dusyk, Rassell and Hubbs have to be considered as likely starters but there's a bunch of guys coming in. I'd expect that Tad Kozun will get his chance pretty early. You dont bring him in and leave him on the bench. If I'm guessing right, then we're down to 3 open forward spots between 9 guys. A lot will depend on how Thomas structures his lines obviously ... will the fourth line be a pure "energy" type line? It seemed last year that wasn't so much the case, while 3rd and 4th lines had "roles" they also seemed free to make plays. Expect some dynamism in the early lineups as Thomas looks at lots of guys to see what they can bring in actual game situations. It's a big roster right now ... maybe some other forward won't be returning (as has been speculation). Still though, lots of competition for playing time up front should be a good thing. Right?

In my view it's gonna be hard to crack the veteran lineup on the backend. Ben Matthews and Jarrett Brown will have to impress to earn playing time or one of the six I listed will have to crash hard in some way.

Hubbs and Rassell will be hard to keep in suits come game night. Pretty sure they will both be in game sweaters. Hubbs plays with an edge and Rassell impressed with unfreshman like skills.

Totally agree with you about Hubbs. As the season went on he learned how to stay out of the penalty box too, which is (I think) key for him seeing regular ice time.

What was wrong with the old one? Did the number next to UAA never change from 0? That didn't necessarily mean it was broken. ;)

You are 100% right, it was not broken, but it is for sale …. And Bowling Green ice arena could get it for a song but……..your roof is so low you will always be stuck with the little flat one on the end of the building.

Yeah, that low roof that bounces every sound from the student section onto the ice is a real pain. We'll never have room for an actual scoreboard.

Wife and I visited Juneau AK for our honeymoon....love this state and I've barely been anywhere in the Southeast. Gotta visit again and see Southcentral and the Interior (or at least Denali).

Fly to anchorage...rent a motorhome and take off. Not tied into a hotel room. like to fish salmon ....last 2 weeks of july
