UAA 2026-27 The Insanity Continues

Thought the team played good but was let down by poor goaltending in the first game, Gramme is just not good enough unfortunately.

The Sully still sucks and the gameday experience sucks even worse. I swear between the athletic department and the Wolverines gameday crew there’s not a brain cell between them. Maybe try to remember that our rival’s main color is blue and don’t turn the lights blue when UAA scores. Had six months to prepare for this opening weekend and apparently no one did.

Right they had green lights last season, Friday the goal horn sounded off as well. But hey the YouTube broadcast was in UAA branding at least.

Tough first series of the year, arguably the toughest in the nation. I was hoping UAA would split the series as I didn't think they could sweep.

Bore(d) Tide Report 10.12.26

We look like a DII/III school, college hockey is still soo small I don't think in my lifetime we'll see the power schools move up to a D0 ala what the power four should do in CFB except FAS for obvious notions. Four straight losses to the #1 and #2 team in the nation ain't nothing to sneeze out, but we were outscored 27-6. Gramme has an 8.00 GAA and .814 save percentage, for just his sake let alone mine I hope he's relegated to third. Is Marks hurt? Why hasn't he played? Good to see some fight even late Saturday night, and holy cow if we could've converted on just a 1/4 of the breakaways and 1-1's. I did like the creativity from Michigan, they should be a fun team to watch the rest of the season. I didn't know the NCAA Men's Hockey YouTube puts out highlight videos for almost every game. Yes even our broadcasts, that's neat. For Rud's sake I hope he schedules an easier gauntlet next season, hard to endear yourself to a hockey community by losing. Especially to a hockey community that has a winning team already in the Wolverines. If you are a rah rah guy but you continue to lose, you will lose the locker room quickly.

Rud is in the win column, congrats! Would've loved the sweep but best not to be greedy. Did not like the lapse in judgement by Cooper. Loved the intensity from Rud afterwords. Rud is growing on me. So is Rocha, Jesus. This is no David and goliath story but overall I've liked what I've seen soo far from near everybody. Attendance hasn't been that bad as I was worried after the half filled free games. Optimism abounds. Though to call it down the middle, I also attended the Pack the House game for WVB and man the crowd was into it. The announcer did not have to tell the fans to make some noise, but did only to add. If we could get that energy, boy oh boy.

Some more thoughts rolling around, the switch to a run n gun offense changes the development of players. Oren is flourishing in this system for example, but goalies will suffer with higher chances for the opposition to score. It makes it easier to grow the more offensive forwards and D, but harder if you are more defensive focused. There's nothing wrong per se playing like this, but we will now be labeled differently on the recruit side. Hate to borrow these words from that D rider Woody, but our anemic offense stereotype might be erased-which I would love.

The LSSU weekend was the first time the shot counts have been even: 48-44 for UAA over the two games, after Denver and Michigan outshot them 167-76 in the first four. Rocha's .878 looks rough on paper, but he faced 48 shots in Ann Arbor. Miami this weekend should be a good test of whether the new system holds up.

Like I mentioned above a run n gun offense is going to lead to goals against, which means our goalies we used to harden and develop aren't going to be given the same shot and opportunity.

Could be, but the LSSU weekend cuts the other way so far. UAA allowed 22 shots each night, the fewest all year, after giving up 33 to 48 a night against Denver and Michigan. If the system can keep shots against there, the goalies get a fairer shake. Miami this weekend will say a lot.

In some news that might piss you off. Kritsov is the starting goalie at Denver? Camden at ACHA II OK State's team has 9 people on staff?! Wth. We are butt spawn compared to some these programs out there.

Saw that too. He started both games against Michigan last weekend, and Denver outshot them pretty badly and still lost both. BC brings a hot goalie into Denver this weekend, so it'll be a big test for him.

Outscored 8-3. Always thought it'd be neat to switch to good ole Minniesoda's offense, but every system has it's drawbacks. Pretty apt thinking by Rud to change our offense which has been mostly terrible joining the WCHA. That I appreciate. Bore(d) Tide no happen because no watchy. 1-7. Wolverines lied on social media by making it sound like they set the attendance record for all hockey history at the Sully. You can't set the record Proud, by giving away roughly 2/5 of the tickets. Something something every lie is an accusation, Boy.

Yeah, 1-7 is rough and getting outscored 8-3 at Miami doesn't help. Saturday was close though, 3-2 in overtime, and Rocha made 26 saves both nights. The defense looks better than it did against Denver and Michigan. It's the 20 or so shots a night going the other way that has to change.

And that can be shrunk, though the skill gap remains between us and good teams. This is a systems issue that will not be resolved until we have the depth of most teams. It's ingenious to attract higher end scorers to close the gap score wise, then we don't have to as deep and play a more pro style like under Shasby.
