UAA 2026-27 The Insanity Continues

New thread time as the offseason is underway, Anchorage's own David Carle just won his third NCAA Championship at Denver. Just to remind or inform that UAA was invited to the same conference as Denver and Wisconsin back in the 90's. We've had one winning season this century, two in 34 seasons. Since 92-93 we've been regulated to the nWCHA, the team was cut due to financials, and banished to the shadow realm as an Independent. Still no conference even after six teams are now in the same boat as us. And seemingly a homegrown Anchorage and Seawolf was asked to step aside early this offseason to have somebody else try to lead this circus act.

It's not all doom and gloom however, a move back to the Sullivan is in the works. A new on campus arena is beginning the design process. The incoming classes are less NAHL and similar leagues heavy, and more and more 2.0 Seawolf players are going pro. The UCHCup is a fall back if no new conference is formed.

We have a voice, please use it. I have made my voice heard, online, in person, and in arena. Coaches, some players, announcers, the suits at UAA do read these threads, blogs, social media, and emails (some even contribute...). I have helped influence jersey design, music, game day experience, and program direction simply from here or similar avenues. I helped bring Seawolf Hockey back, but the university involvement has been lack luster to say the least, they are the problem, not the head coach. If given enough resources, it's clear home grown talent can succeed. I did and continue to do my part, the university now needs to, they need to start feeling the pressure.

Good idea to start a new thread.

" We've had one winning season this century, two in 34 seasons." That is crazy.

I am wondering if either of the previous candidates will apply for the position again. Chris Cosentino or Steve Murphy.

Neither of those guys are named Matt though, so we would be breaking the 'Head Coach Name Matt' tradition over the last 3 coaches.

lol I'm just glad there's another AK Seawolf Fanatic, I'm about to break out my Excel sheet comparing all our head coaches, the numbers are shocking, here's a sneak peek:

AVG. WAVG. LAVG. T
17132
10224
10225
10224
10214
4275
9222
I stand by my it's not the head coach, save getting Bruce Cassidy it's a UAA problem of neglect.

I might have a smooth brain, I didn't even question if Matthew Johnson was Ryan's brother. We only have one goalie, we will pick up players, the quality depends on how long until a coach is selected. Whomever asked Shasby to step aside is on the hook for the next season, not the head coach.

Update on Transfer Portal:

Previously mentioned-
Nolan Gagnon
Greg Orosz
Tyler Kristov
Henry Bartle
Camden Shasby
Dimitry Kebreau
Ryan Johnson (Transferred to UNH)
Pavol Funtek
Judah Makway (Transferred to Maine)

Additions-
David Jesus
Joey Potter (Transferred to Lake Superior State)
Isaac Menard

I will continue to update this as we receive more information.

The defense was atrocious that part I don't mind, what I do mind is if most of this players to find a new home we might be looking at rivaling our one win season. Rumor is they've already interviewed the usual local suspects including Walters, and didn't even get to interview Gomez as he said no right away.

UA_ picked up a decent starter in net, they are starting to run thin. Marks showed promise his first season, not sure if he's ready to start next season. This is asinine to force a coach out right before the portal opens.

Jesus to Vermont, I really wanted to have a pairing of Dick and Jesus courtesy of UA_. They couldn't even do us that solid, I thought we were in this together. smh
