New thread time as the offseason is underway, Anchorage's own David Carle just won his third NCAA Championship at Denver. Just to remind or inform that UAA was invited to the same conference as Denver and Wisconsin back in the 90's. We've had one winning season this century, two in 34 seasons. Since 92-93 we've been regulated to the nWCHA, the team was cut due to financials, and banished to the shadow realm as an Independent. Still no conference even after six teams are now in the same boat as us. And seemingly a homegrown Anchorage and Seawolf was asked to step aside early this offseason to have somebody else try to lead this circus act.
It's not all doom and gloom however, a move back to the Sullivan is in the works. A new on campus arena is beginning the design process. The incoming classes are less NAHL and similar leagues heavy, and more and more 2.0 Seawolf players are going pro. The UCHCup is a fall back if no new conference is formed.
We have a voice, please use it. I have made my voice heard, online, in person, and in arena. Coaches, some players, announcers, the suits at UAA do read these threads, blogs, social media, and emails (some even contribute...). I have helped influence jersey design, music, game day experience, and program direction simply from here or similar avenues. I helped bring Seawolf Hockey back, but the university involvement has been lack luster to say the least, they are the problem, not the head coach. If given enough resources, it's clear home grown talent can succeed. I did and continue to do my part, the university now needs to, they need to start feeling the pressure.
