audio back. sounds like a bunch of penalties... diamond got a 2 and a 10 as part of it as did a clarkson player...

sullivan with a big save in a scrum...

12 minutes left

sounds like the clarkson's goalie has been the story of this game... sully has played well enough, but karpowich has been the story....

Re: U Maine 2011-2012 Season (thread created when Maine was at .500) Thread

maine hangs on to win it... blocked about six shots in the last 30 seconds while clarkson had the goalie pulled...

Nothing in the Portland Press about the game......no hype...........NO TV.........what is going on TW..............?? It's a Saturday night .....!!
There was an article on Jake Rutt but it did not look like he played... would have been smart of Whitehead to suit him infront of his home crowd but since when does Timmmmmay do the smart thing... atleast they pulled a win out.... barely

Typical Gravellese officiated game, calling everything and at the same time missing what was going on. The bench minor was the result of a line change with Diamond making a cross ice pass from the corner and hitting a player coming or going off the ice, I couldn't tell which. Nice to see Higgins and Shemansky score goals to help out Abbott and Flynn. At the end of the 1st period, Tim was giving Gravellese a lecture as they were leaving the ice. Clarkson was doing alot of holding and hitting after the whistle, Maine was retaliating and Mangene was wild after a couple of altercations. It was nice to see him score the game winner after being so frustrated at times. Sullivan was outstanding in the 3rd period as was Maine's defense. Very nice win. These two teams may see each other again in Florida. Nice crowd at the game. It wasn't sold out but filled in nicely.

Glad Maine won, too, but it's hard to get very emotionally-invested in a team coached by an ineffective lame duck.

My personal turning-point was a previous Portland game against lowly Brown. (Maine was still fairly loaded with Walsh/Grant guys back then, but Tim was at the helm.)

The Bears skated that night as though they had a load in their collective breezers, until they woke up with maybe 5 minutes to go to tie the game, then to win it... I was so disgusted with the effort up to that juncture that I actually booed Maine for the one and only time in my young life! :D

Little did I know then that a trend was developing.

Nice to see some scoring from somewhere besides the first line.

Really, pleased for Higgins. His goal was a breakaway (one on one with Karpowich), and Shemansky stepping up with two. Maine had many other scoring opportunities that Karpowich stopped.

Maine plays Clarkson in the first game in Florida on December 29th. Cornell plays the Minutemen in the 2nd game.

Good to hear the defense and goaltending was good in the third, becasue they seemed to be the same-old same-old up till that point. Maybe they're starting to wake up, but with a GAA above 3 a game, it's still not lending much to confidence. We'll see.

Mangene is now at forward on the second line. TIMMAY finally figured out what was obvious to everyone since at least August. Seems they've been scoring a bit more since that move was made, which they'll have to keep doing until and unless the defense tightens up.

Anyone know the extent of the injury to Sullivan,he seemed to favor his right leg...maybe a ankle as he had a hard time getting into the bench area...he did shake hands after but you could see he favored that leg and foot area/putting hardly any pressure on it.

That can't be good.. Marty, Seeley rotation

have to separate defense from soft goaltending second goal was a classic, Sully mishandling the puck, leads to score....not a d issue, Marty not focused and playing like a 19 year old....D will now have a chance to gel and get pairings right, Mangene Much better up front....Pryor and O'Connor still make me nervous, seem to run around a bit too much....on to VT....and fingers crossed on sully's leg stuff. Where was Corkum.....?

The puck handling miscues are one of the most obvious issues with the coaching of this team. It is very easy to coach a goalie about not handling the puck. Clearly, Sully and Marty have not been told or coached about handling the puck at all. I would guess that the GAA would go down by 1 if the goalies just stopped handling the puck at all since they aren't able to handing it correctly. I bet they are averaging a goal a game on mishandling the puck, either just by blown stick handling behind the net like last night or miscommunication with the D in the defensive zone.

Rob Madore's numbers look like he's been in the Maine crease (4.10 GAA and a .862 SV%).

If there's gonna be a chance for the secondary scoring to really wake up, it'll be these two games.
