As much as I love Game of Thrones, that episode had nowhere near the kick in the gut that The Wire had when they *spoiler* killed off Omar

I was literally sick the rest of the episode, couldn't go to sleep after because it affected me so.

I don't think anything in GoT can really be a kick to the gut, given that the show is built around shock factor. (I've never seen The Wire, so I can't comment on it.) That said, the events from last night take things in a very interesting direction that I just never expected. You simply don't come across a show very often that's so willing to kill off major characters as GoT does.

Especially in volume. And they avoided the cliche...they are following the book I guess but it was "refreshing" to see them be that matter of fact.

I wonder if Peggy did what she did more to help Joan or to screw Pete... She managed to do both, but one wonders if it was Don or Roger vs Joan would she have bothered?

Well, she still chewed out Joan. I think Peggy is starting to change INTO Joan (as in screw everyone else, I'm on an island), as compared to before where she was trying to help everyone. In other words, Peggy's really starting to get jaded.

CBS on Saturday nights in the 70's must have been awesome.

Where the heck is Doctor Who on that list? Boo.

Its absence has a lot to do with being Doctor Who.

Just because you like a show doesn't mean it's well written. There are a few shows I thought would make the list, but I didn't see.

I think its written very well because of some of the ways they maneuver out of past situations.

Agreed. I've seen a few episodes of Doctor Who, since my girlfriend is a fan, and I don't think it is very well written. That doesn't mean it doesn't have a following, or that people can't like it. I think Sons of Anarchy is a great show, but that didn't make the list.

If it was well written, they wouldn't have written themselves into a corner to begin with.

I think there are episodes that are well written but overall, the show is just cheesy but fun to watch.

Re: TV Thread 9: The Walking Dead Americans are completely Justified to be Psyched

It depends on the episode. There's a lot of bad Doctor Who episodes, but it's been on for like 25 years. We're also approaching(or passed, YMMV) the point where over half of the Simpsons run is crap too. Some of the recent Doctor Who episodes are definitely among the best TV writing ever.

It depends on how you want to judge things. Fawlty Towers had 12 episodes, My So-Called Life had 19. Let me cherry-pick that many Doctor Who episodes and it's probably in the top ten.

That is what is tough to guage. There is also Lonesome Dove, Roots and Band of Brothers on the list, how do you compare these miniseries to a sitcom that ran for 10 years, or a show like Saturday Night Live?

Re: TV Thread 9: The Walking Dead Americans are completely Justified to be Psyched

I would have thought Friday Night Lights would have been higher than 22. I know the second season was not that good, but the series as a whole was outstanding. I suppose I should be thankful it's even on the list.

ETA: I love both of these shows but I'm sorry. There is NO WAY Will & Grace was a better written show than Soap.

96. Soap - ABC (tie)

94. Will & Grace - NBC

I'm sure that has more to do with being early for television and openly gay characters...

Yes, Soap was early. Oh, you meant Will & Grace?

There are a whole lot of shows ranked above Soap which don't deserve to be.

I would have thought Big Bang would at least be on the list.

And Curb being on there is interesting...the best part of that show was that so much was unscripted
