Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

Watching old Cheers episodes on Netflix streaming, since it's been years...

They tackled some tough issues for the times, like "gay guys in sports," and "unwedded pregnancies." They wrapped the issues up in humor, but man, I dunno if those eps would fly today. When the issues were really discussed in the episodes...it seemed a little heavy for a prime-time 80's sitcom.

Maude had an abortion during the 70s.

Maude had an abortion during the 70s.

I recall.

I guess, I think that the 80s-era sitcoms rarely tackled those types of things. Maybe every couple of seasons they'd have "a very special episode" and the whole episode was done in a serious tone. *shrug* I could be romanticizing it, though.

You're romanticizing. There were a handful of shows, usually not aimed at the younger demographic, that would always take on these tougher issues.

All in the Family addressed the issues of the day almost every week.

Girls is probably in my top-5 shows of all time. Terrifically written, and I do think Lena Dunham is very underrated as an actress.

I've never seen it (I had never heard of it) and I know absolutely nothing about it, but when I asked Dr. Mrs. who this "Lena Dunham" was she mentioned that she loathes it. I didn't inquire further, but it may have to do with her reflexive hatred of everything to do with NYC.

That is why I specifically said "80s sitcoms." AITF was the granddaddy of tackling issues in sitcom form. :)

All the episodes of Girls I’ve seen have been just meh to not good.

I can't stand that show. The characters are all made intentionally unlikeable, but they're unlikeable and just not entertaining at all to me.

Finally finished Big Little Lies. It was fantastic. The ending was better than what I hoped.

I have a guilty pleasure- watching RV shows.

I can't believe what some people buy.

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

Mindhunter was awesome. Never quite hit a 10 on an episode but everything was a solid 7-8+

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

Is Riverdale worth watching?

I’ve seen one episode and didn’t necessarily hate it. It’s a little teen soapy but if the payoff is there, I’ll finish it.

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

Okay, watching The Deuce. When did David Krumholtz get so frickin' fat?

Re: TV: There She Is, The Old Radiation King

I know! I throught the same thing. 10 Things I Hate About You seems like even further away after I started watching The Deuce.
