Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

For me, the peak of that episode was when Jax said goodbye to Thomas, Abel, Wendy and Nero, and sent them on their way. That scene was just about perfect. I think one of the things that detracted from the episode for me, was that this peak scene was too far forward in the episode, there was too much time for a letdown, too many commercial breaks, etc, between that huge emotional scene and when we see the last scene. I think it would have had more impact if they would have slid it back in the episode a little bit, maybe have it after Jax's meeting with the DA, and then go straight to his last kills and his last meeting with the club.

It does feel like I'm nitpicking too much. Overall, it was a good episode, and a good end to the series. I'm probably too spoiled after the way Breaking Bad ended.

Heard on the radio yesterday that Season 2 of Fargo will star Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons. I like Plemons for it, but Kirsten Dunst?

BB did spoil us. I agree that hurt SOA a bit.

Funny thing is that this one hit me harder than BB's did.

Don't get me wrong, BB is the best show (by far) that I've ever watched, but the finale was just as obvious to me.

Both were fan service to a degree although both pulled that off wonderfully.

To BBDL's point about commercials - I heard that from others who watched it in real time too - I watched it on dvr, so didn't have that issue.

As far as the homeless woman... I thought I remember hearing that she was the ghost mother of the girl living with Gemma at the end and sorta being a nanny to Jax's boys. Wasn't she killed at the same time as JT or something like that?

Finally, to sum up... Gemma got everyone killed.

Re: homeless lady:
The mom rumor was talked about, yes. It DID fit the storyline.

Possible SOA spinoffs...

http://www.designntrend.com/articles/30242/20141211/kutter-sutter-talks-sons-anarchy-spinoff-series-following-shows-jaw.htm

This is the one I'd be interested in...

"Sutter thought of looking more deeply into the show's history, saying, "I never really saw [a spinoff] as a full-on series because when you start doing that, I want to honor this mythology we created and I didn't want to step on it, so I think I like the idea of it being a one-off and perhaps just to establish how the club was formed and let it go at that," Sutter said. "So we can see the roots of the club and I see it as a different show in terms of I don't think it will be as pulpy...I feel it will be a little more, I don't want to say a historical show, but it takes place in the '60s and it's Vietnam, so there's a lot of iconic events happenings around it that influence John Teller. To me, that's an interesting show to make and I think the die-hard fans will plug into that and I think maybe because if it's tonally, it'll be a little different, that perhaps that we bring in new viewers as well."

Had discussed this with peeps before. Would think that an origins show could be extremely interesting.

They just announced a 30 for 30 about the Soviet hockey team. That should be a good one.

Kissed Forever goodbye. I was patient, but it never got anything going.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Been catching up on the final few episodes of Boardwalk Empire, and this guy they got to play the young Deputy Sheriff Nucky Thompson is amazing. His voice, look, mannerisms, everything about him is a dead-on young Steve Buscemi.

Edit: OK, that didn't end quite like I expected it to.

All the Muppet Baby versions they cast were spot-on perfect. Do they give Emmys for casting? If so, BE should be a lock.

Hitchcock reference at the end of The Mentalist last night. Pretty cool.

Still haven't watched the finale, but I agree with this. It's partially makeup and styling (if you look at pictures of the actor, you wouldn't think "young Steve Buscemi"), but he nails the mannerisms.

I think they do, though it might be one of those "in an earlier taped ceremony" things.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Looked him up on IMDB, and he's the kid who played the Young Masbath in the Johnny Depp version of Sleepy Hollow. Good that his career is still going strong.

I'm sure the fake teeth did a lot for it, but still, the way he pursed his mouth and cocked his head, enunciated his words, were dead-on Buscemi.

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

Good, good, good finale to The Newsroom. The flashbacks to how it all began were really nice, and I'm a sucker for characters playing music, so there I was.

Anyone watching Ascension? I'm having some science issues already.

Edit: Well that's one way of solving how they generated 1g and continued to do so after 51 years. By my calculations, a 1g acceleration after 51 years would have you exceeding c by a healthy amount.

So it is a guarantee the Old Hipster(Kepler) and the Young Hipster (Maize) will hate it since I agree with you? ;)

Re: TV: The League Of Anarchy Is A Bunch Of Justified Mad Men

It was terrible, but just generic Newsroom terrible, unlike the penultimate episode. Discussing a job promotion with a woman's husband and having him make the decision without consulting her at all is just comical compared to the offensiveness of deciding for a woman that she shouldn't be allowed to speak about being assaulted.

And at least Aaron Sorkin was nice enough to let Jeff Daniels sing a song in the middle of the episode for absolutely no reason as a thank you for being on his terrible show.

Apparently so.

As for Maize, it seemed pretty apparent that Pruitt offered Mac the job and she took it, and then after told Will, who announced it to the group. In no way did he make the decision for her. Also, nobody decided anything for the woman who had been assaulted. Don ran some options by her, and his reasoning why he thought it wouldn't be a good idea, and in the end, decided he didn't want to put her on the show. As far as I know, that's his choice. She can still speak out however she feels like about her assault and the guy who assaulted her.

But I guess that's what happens when you're just looking for stuff to hate on, and not really paying attention to what's actually going on.

Speaking of Jeff Daniels singing, he and his son's band are gonna be appearing about 20 minutes away from me in January at a little 200 seat venue built in an old barn. Nice little get for up here in hicksville Maine. Probably will not go. Am thinking about going to Bruce Cockburn though.
