Spoiler:We keep finding out more people that are like the 63's, and haven't aged. The guy at the end was the same doctor as treated the inmate earlier in the episode, and he hadn't aged, just like the Indian woman that is now in a coma.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh. I must have missed that earlier clip then. That's far more interesting.

That being said, I think you're right about the slow burn. Which is fine, but I think you need to bring the pot to a boil before you reduce it to simmer.

Breaking Bad, for instance, is basically a runaway nuclear reaction. Very slow and plodding to start. With every episode it gets exponentially more insane.

I think they may not want another Lost (where people were MAD about the ending). Also they don't want another Terra Nova.

Lost was doomed to have people mad about the ending after people guessed the ending half way through the first season, and the creators denied, denied, denied. Lost was also one season too long, they should have wrapped it up earlier, and it wouldn't have had to get as convoluted as it did. It is certainly possible that Alcatraz could suffer from the same problems, but if that is the case, we would have several good seasons coming up before it goes to ****.

That is what I'm getting about Lost (talking to a friend about it, he watched the whole series). Either way, I think they are being conservative with the show. I'll take that with a good story over an OMG***BBQ with a crappy story.

Well, I wouldn't call Lost a crappy story. For a good 2-3 seasons it was an excellent story, 4-5 were decent, and the last one sucked. They just pushed it too far. And actually, Lost started off very similar, the first 4-5 episodes of the first season only had very small tidbits showing what was to come, just enough to show the viewer that there was some crazy **** going on.

Right now, I see Alcatraz being a 6 season or so series. Not ALL of the 63 have to be covered, and there is info to be learned with the 4 chasing them down. However, if they max out the 63 at 1 per ep, at say, 12 eps per season, that could make it a 7-8 season series (12 of the 63 per season, plus the info of how what happened happened, AND backstory of all the chasers). I think 9 would be stretching it.

There will be twists, so that they don't have 1 per episode. A show like this isn't going to follow that pattern from beginning to end, they're using that as a vessel to build the story, and once they have established storylines they can move away from having 1 convict per episode. For example, at some point they will continue with the storyline about the cop girls grandpa, and when they do that, I would not expect it to continue with this same pattern.

I conceded that it would be a max of 1 per ep. I never thought they'd follow that all the way, but it would be a max, though. Unless they pull the "the extensive background of felon X" bit (like her grandpa) I can't see them making a 2-parter about some random 63er.

I think they'll begin to stray from this formula once they start getting into explaining why they are all showing up again/the age thing, and get into explaining who is behind it.

I agree. Otherwise, it WOULD be a 5 season show, period. They can't have that.

Stupid question, having not seen any of Alcatraz, but (semi-spoiler) aren't there hundreds of former prisoners? The "63" just refers to the year when they all disappeared, right?

Spoiler answer to his question: There were hundreds of prisoners, but the 63 does refer to the people that did disappear. The story was that the 2 guards that were running the transport boat that was hauling prisoners away showed up at the island to get another load of prisoners and everyone was gone, prisoners, guards and everyone else that they left on the island after the last load. So several, if not most of the prisoners did get off the island, and there were <63 left when they all disappeared, since the 63 includes the guards and others that disappeared also.

Hmm. Seems like I should've watched the show before asking that question, then.

I was just intrigued by the discussion from last night so I read a plot summary / review of the first two weeks (to see if it was worth adding to my DVR) and there wasn't a mention of the number of prisoners except the original number.

Watched this week's episode. The first two were better, but I'm hooked and will continue to watch. The music is very Lost-like. I want to know more how the inmates that have traveled thru time get current currency and guns and know about cell phones and stuff. Do you think Sam Neill knows that Lucy is one of the time travelers?

I think he may.....he knew that this was all coming. He just doesn't know why they disappeared. How the others got the new things/knew how to use them...it obviously ties in to why they disappeared. Probably some subliminal/sci-fi implantation thing.


And still digging Inkmaster. The artwork is amazing at times.

I'm quite certain they have mentioned more than once that there's potentially "hundreds" of inmates that could be roaming around in the current time. The "63s" is what they're using to refer to the year they all disappeared, nothing more.

My question now is, what happened to Doc when he was 11? He said he was "taken" but didn't elaborate. My guess: Aliens. :)

Based on my experience with LOST, I'm sure there's going to be loads of things that are never satisfactorily explained.
