TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

Watch The Wire as soon as you can. It is amazing. It may start out slow for the first few episodes (though I did not think so) but it will pick up and get great quickly. It has a great cast and great writing. I felt it was good enough that after seeing the whole thing I went out and bought the box set.

That's what I hear. As for slow, also see: the first 3 seasons of Mad Men. ;) I can deal with slow.

And once I start The Wire, it'll end up being marathon sessions, which is why I'm waiting until a couple of these other shows are done (S5 for BB, and rumored S7 for SOA).

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

Nashville is easily right there with Last Resort for best new show. I didn't expect it to be that good, but wow, it was just plain excellent.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

Forgot to mention Ink Master. Love the show, not necessarily for the competition, but rather for the ideas/creativity of the artists. Amazing tatts.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

I had to go into our local Co-Op grocery the other day looking for palm oil (needed it for a fish feed I was making for one of my labs fish nutrition studies). This is what I thought of the whole time I was in there:

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

So Im kind of curious now with people talking about all the show they watch and DVR and everything. What are the shows you do make the time to watch? And if you DVR them or watch them online or something what shows would be the ones that you actually sit to watch (IE you dont just have them on in the background but are at least trying to pay attention)? This is open to everyone.

I have no idea what nights these are on, because I watch everything from the DVR.

Revenge (LOVE this season so far!)
Once Upon a Time
The Mindy Project
Mad Men
Glee
Pretty Little Liars
2 Broke Girls
Nashville (DVRed the first episode, have not watched it yet)
Call the Midwife (just started this one, it's on PBS)

also, I always watch the Simpsons in reruns, but not the new ones. I used to watch Family Guy in reruns, but now they changed it to American Dad, which I don't like.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

On Vegas, I can see a future plot line where the blond chick teams up with Vic Mackey to off her own father. She knows he's a scumbag, and is standing in the way of Mackey's foresight on how expand the earning potential of the Vegas casinos

Because of my work, school and sleep schedule (I go to bed), we either do a lot of DVR or on-demand.

Shows I can watch without taping:
Dancing With the Stars, Monday night
Call the Midwife (except tonight, since the Packers are on)
M*A*S*H reruns

Shows I have to tape or watch on-demand:
Dancing with the Stars, Tuesday night (class)
L&O:SVU
Hawaii Five-0
Chicago Fire (I am sucked in)

Shows that ELCAsoccer DVRs:
Royal Pains
Bones
Necessary Roughness

Otherwise our TV is usually on some kind of sports show when I'm not home. If not for that, we probably wouldn't even have cable.

It's still slow compared to most shows on TV, but compared to the first two seasons (which are a total snail's pace), it's gotten a lot faster.

I DVR

Mad Men
Hawaii 5-O
How I Met Your Mother
Big Bang Theory

If I had to miss one of those, I wouldn't care all that much, except for Mad Men.

I am also watching Breaking Bad on Netflix.

I don't watch any other TV shows regularly, but will usually channel surf for about 30 minutes before I go to bed (usually Food Network, Discovery, History, crappy sitcom reruns). I'm thinking about cancelling my cable, considering how little I watch TV. I don't mind waiting until a show is on Netflix before I start watching.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

Zombies in armor! So great.

Also - gas mask face pull-off. :D

Loved it and worth the wait.
Even without the awesome zombie kills, this episode was going to be great if only because of how little dialog was used to tell the story. That was my biggest problem with season 2, the repetitive arguments about "what it's about" and the forced conflict within. Last night, the characters said a lot less than they usually do, and it told us a lot more about them. That plus awesome zombie kills equals fantastic television.

I noticed that in the first segment where they secured the farmhouse. There was NO dialogue which heightened the tension but also showed what a cohesive unit they have/had become over the 6 months or so since we left them at the farmhouse.

No dialogue through that was a great decision by the writers and they pulled it off.

High hopes for this season...

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

Kinda like on The Wire, the third or fourth episode, where Bunk and McNulty recreate an entire crime scene and the only dialogue between them is various connotations of the F word.

Watch as they air:
Burn Notice
Psych
Royal Pains
Chopped
Iron Chef America
Nadia G's B-tchin' Kitchen
Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations

DVR:
Unique Eats
Unique Sweets
Giada At Home

Catch in repeats:
NCIS
Law and Order: SVU

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

Thursday:
Last Resort
Person of Interest

That's pretty much it for series TV at the moment. Depressing.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

Watched the premier of Arrow, based on the Green Arrow comic book. Seems pretty derivative, looks a lot like The Cape minus the campy elements, with a bit of Revenge thrown in. Two really good scenes though, the opening montage as he's scrambling around the island, and the last scene in the lifeboat with his father.

I'll probably keep watching, although I don't expect it to stick around very long.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

Ah, those were the days when I could actually watch TV shows while they air. Can't remember the last time I did that with an entire scripted show. Always something going on or some kid is bothering me so I can't pay attention.
