TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

I need to cut down on the amount of shows I DVR in a week...they are beginning to build up and now American Horror Story: Asylum and The Walking Dead are starting too. I record a bunch of sitcom fluff to watch when I'm working on something else or cooking or cleaning, and I'm not always focused on the show. I don't want to get rid of those, because they work good for that. I'm still holding out hope for Revolution, because it was such a good concept, but I think that one is going to have to go. I was going to dump Elementary, but I really liked the last episode, so I want to hang onto that for a little longer. The other one I'm not sure about is 666 Park Avenue, which has been OK, but I'm not sure where it is headed. If it goes one direction I could really like it, if it goes another, I'm not going to like it. Dammit, this TV stuff is too difficult.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

So Im kind of curious now with people talking about all the show they watch and DVR and everything. What are the shows you do make the time to watch? And if you DVR them or watch them online or something what shows would be the ones that you actually sit to watch (IE you dont just have them on in the background but are at least trying to pay attention)? This is open to everyone.

For me:
On TV:
The Fox Sunday night stuff (Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob's Burgers and American Dad)
South Park
Parks and Recreation
30 Rock
The Office (it should have ended by now but I keep watching because I feel like I am invested in it)
Community
Mad Men
Archer
Futurama
Venture Brothers

Online later:
Boardwalk Empire
Treme
The Newsroom
Daily Show
Colbert Report
Veep

A few shows that I have been going through on Netflix but need to catch up on: The League, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy. I also plan on catching up on Game of Thrones and some of the other HBO stuff through my HBOGO account. But I dont watch that much TV as it is so its been tough to keep caught up on these shows or start new ones. There are a few shows on my netflix instant watch list that have the entire series but I just havent sat down to watch them yet.

Edit: I have added a few shows that I forgot about that I do watch...which makes me realize I watch more TV than I thougt. But really though its only these shows and only when they are on When they are not on I am catching up on stuff I missed. Also I tend to be doing other things while I watch TV (tying flies for fly fishing namely) so at least I feel like I am being productive.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

My DVR list, in the order of how much I care about watching the show:
1. Breaking Bad
2. Sons of Anarchy
3. The Walking Dead
4. Dexter (I'm still not caught up, I need to finish last season on DVD, and then start the new season that I'm DVRing)
5. Revenge
6. Last Resort
7. American Horror Story
8. Justified
9. Mad Men (Planning on being caught up before the next season)
10. Hell on Wheels
11. The Big Bang Theory
12. Psych
-----------------------------cut off for where I really care about paying attention to the show
13. Vegas
14. Leverage
15. Elementary (might get cut)
16. Revolution (might get cut)
17. Modern Family
18. How I Met Your Mother
19. 666 Park Avenue (might get cut)

Nashville - Not sure, haven't watched episode 1 yet.

I am also recording Homeland, but I need to watch season one, which I'm waiting for on Netflix. Also, I'm planning on recording Game of Thrones, if I still have HBO, I need to watch season 2 of that on HBOGo.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

Agh. Hell on Wheels and Justified. Forgot about those. I saw most of the first season of Justified and enjoyed it but it never fit in my schedule so I fell way behind. I want to watch Hell on Wheels but I think there were some folks on here that have given it very mixed reviews. I still plan on trying but it will be one of those ones I watch once its on Netflix.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

TiVo:

1. House Hunters International *
2. The Soup *
3. Amazing Race *
4. The Daily Show
5. Survivor *

7. Colbert Report

Currently Off Season:

1. Mad Men
2. Archer
3. The Newsroom
4. American Horror Story

(* would never watch alone, but fun with the spousal unit)

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

The only shows I'm watching that are current at this moment are The Big Bang Theory, and then How I Met Your Mother (which I'm thinking about tossing).

The shows I'm watching On Demand are Game of Thrones (now waiting for season 3), and I've just started watching The Newsroom - I really like the acting and production of this one, but I'm not wild about how they keep trying to portray Will McAvoy as a Republican, but then only showing him arguing for liberal things. It seems more like they should portray him as a small "L" libertarian (until we see his non-social issues, I have yet to see anything Republican about his stances) than a Republican.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

I'm loving the Hopper from Dish so far. Don't have to worry about recording any primetime Network shows and can focus on other shows. It also gives me a chance to watch a show I was kind of interested in checking out, without setting up any timers.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

I don't think the posting space per post here is big enough for me to list out my watch list. :)

I slogged my way through all ten episodes of The Newsroom. I have no idea why. I guess just to say that I did. Jeff Daniels repeatedly saying he's a Republican is essentially the equivalent of the guy that keeps telling racist jokes because "he knows a black guy". You could at least make an interesting drinking game if you drank every time he did that, or every time a female character did something completely inappropriate for work relating to their personal life that would get them fired in any real world setting.

EDIT: Almost forgot to add 'condescension towards the internet' to the drinking game. Great choice from a show that basically does nothing but yell at people to evolve and be more progressive.

EDIT 2: And any time they break a story due to a crew member having some crazy coincidence connection to someone involved. I was crestfallen when Newsnight didn't break Osama's death because Olivia Munn went to Montessori school with OBL's third wife.

I don't find the show particularly believable, only entertaining. Then again, you liked Girls while I barely made it through the first episode, so it all simply comes down to tastes. I really like watching Sam Waterston's and Emily Mortimer's characters going off the hinge, just losing their ****.

So Im kind of curious now with people talking about all the show they watch and DVR and everything. What are the shows you do make the time to watch?

Revolution

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Louie
Wilfred
The League
Archer

Thurs:
Sons of Anarchy
Justified
Parks and Recreation
Community (?)
30 Rock

Anything else I watch is usually renting DVDs and such. Or stuff that Mrs. EoDS likes. Or sports.

Mon:

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

Nashville has already gotten me hooked, since the opening was Eli Young Band. :p

In other not as good news, for some reason Last Resort didn't record for me.

Re: TV Shows Part 8: Cancel THIS.

Watch as they air:
Breaking Bad
Mad Men
SOA (finally!) (and Tig is a very disturbed man, btw; wow)

Wait for DVD/Netflix:
Californication
The League

That's about it. I didn't even know South Park had a new season going, and honestly, after all the misses last season, I don't really miss it. It's a shame. I gave up on HIMYM due to all the posts about the past season or two here (the only ones I haven't seen).

I still have "The Wire" in my Netflix queue, and I might check out Justified and Hell On Wheels after BB finishes up next year. As you can tell, I don't mind waiting to watch a series sometimes, and I obviously don't watch much tv outside of sports.

Watch The Wire as soon as you can. It is amazing. It may start out slow for the first few episodes (though I did not think so) but it will pick up and get great quickly. It has a great cast and great writing. I felt it was good enough that after seeing the whole thing I went out and bought the box set.
