Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

Finally saw the end of Chernobyl. Holy crap what an amazing series. As someone mentioned earlier, they really drove home the point that miners, firemen, and soldiers saved Europe.

Jared Harris rules. There's just no questioning it at this point.

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

I feel like they had enough material to do at least 1 more episode, but it's not a huge complaint. Great series.

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

Just starting the Catch-22 miniseries. Some very interesting casting. The tone is stark. They're playing it perfectly straight. The absurdism of the book, which was carried through the movie with skill, is dialed way back. It's also considerably less funny. I hafta think the flatness is a deliberate directorial decision and a very risky one. I am interested to see how it works out.

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

Oh yeah, Battletoads. Those pod racer bikes were ****ing horrible. I think my brother and I only got past that level a handful of times.

The three I listed could be as difficult as Battletoads. Though I remember getting further in TMNT than the others. Space Mutants we only got past the first few levels a dozen or so times. Despite owning (and still owning) it.

The second to last level with the handbikes and swirl chasing you is flat-out humanly impossible. (Actually, if you're in 2 player it IS impossible because there's a glitch that unmaps player 2's controls so they can't move.)

The tube level with the OHKO rubber ducks and the swimming through sharks and the spikes and the gears chasing you is pretty bad as well. So is the rat race down the elevator shaft.

Started watching Deadwood, love it!

Wifey keeps trying to get me to watch Family Guy, meh, kinda boring.

The first few seasons of Family Guy were great. Then it was cancelled and brought back. Everything after it was brought back kinda sucked.

I’d say there were four or five good seasons after it came back. Once he started to focus on other shows like American Dad is when it started to go downhill. Apparently he doesn’t have anything to do with the show now besides voicing characters.

Podcasts?

There are a series of five podcasts with the director/writer of the show. They're very insightful about the way to write and produce a TV show, and about the history and current situation on the ground.

Fittingly, Chernobyl is now the top rated show of all time on IMDB.

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

Finished the first episode of Chernobyl. I’m not sure my girlfriend is going to be able to finish the series. She was pretty shellshocked.

The first episode was great. They did an incredible job of presenting the situation from an omniscient POV. Haunting. Terrifying. Horrific. Why can’t network TV ado anything even a fraction this good.

The last time I saw anything else on network even close to being that good was Gotham when Jerome was on.

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

I just started Deadwood...I kinda like it but I am not sure I am going to love it like some do.

Probably start Chernobyl tomorrow unless I get the urge to keep going with Deadwood if it ever picks up.

Re: TV: One Person's Trash...

Oh I will. I’ll probably make her watch too.

I couldn’t believe it was that good and then I watched it. It was better.

If the first part got her she definitely isn't going to want to see part three. It is a very graphic, and sadly a very accurate, depiction of the damage done to the human body after exposure to that much radiation. Legasov sets it up well with his description to Shcherbina but words do not do it justice. It is uncomfortable to witness.
