TV: Give Me That Remote!

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Part of that is because it was a slow boiler, but also AMC is usually a mid-tier cable network. I think a fair number of people Netflixed that one as the seasons became available over time, rather than upgrade their subscription.

Speaking of which, I haven't have cable in 2.5 years. Anyone know if Showtime has any sort of streaming deal? I'd like to watch the Twin Peaks "concluding reboot", but I sure as hell am not picking up a premium cable package to do it. I'll wait for Netflix or DVD if I have to.

Yes, Showtime does have a streaming service, they call it Showtime Anytime. If you're a Hulu subscriber, you can get a couple bucks off on the price. I've not tried it yet, but I'm leaning towards it because there are a few shows that interest me on that network.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

FXX has a couple comedy shows that have had me laughing, You're the Worst and Man Seeking Woman. Other than that, I can't think of any other purposefully comedic shows that are current and I'm really watching.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

I've had TV officially ruined for me. Between game of thrones, Westworld, Fargo, House of Cards, The Night Of, Mr. Robot, True Detective, Stranger Things, OITNB.

I struggle to get into any series anymore. We've been so spoiled with amazing television over the last two or three years that you really need to be incredible to stand out.

I really enjoyed Chicago PD, Chicago Fire, Gotham, Lucifer, but even shows like those are becoming hard to watch.

And see I am the opposite, I am getting rather annoyed with the shows that take an entire season to tell the whole story. I mean if the show is great I like it but sometimes I need to watch shows that arent overly produced and 8-12 episode arcs. I keep a good mix of both for my sanity :)

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Shameless S8 completely redeemed the crapfest that was S7.

Yeah it did I liked the season a lot.

St. Clown,

I used Showtime Anytime on my Roku...I quite like it. HBOGo is better, but the app is quite easy to use and they have lots of stuff on there.

I like how Showtime actually airs a simulcast of their main East and West coast stations. I wish HBOGo offered the same live simulcast of their main station.

The only 2 comedies I still watch are Veep and Sunny. Other than that, meh. There probably isn't a point in having network TV anymore, it is all terrible. In fact, that is one of the factors that is why I am probably going with Sling TV soon. Dump Dish, keep Netflix, Prime, and HBO Go/Now, and get a $25 per month Sling TV package. No need for anything local, since it is all pure trash.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Is Showtime Anytime the Showtime version of HBO Now? As I have AppleTV, I was thinking of getting rid of movie channels and getting the app for both as I think the monthly charge for both would still be less than the package deal I have now. I can now get Netflix through Comcast, which is great.

Yes, Showtime Anytime is their streaming on-demand service, akin to HBO Now.

Just call and tell your provider you're going to drop HBO/Showtime, and they'll give you either for 50% off for 6 months. HBO Now is just slightly cheaper than the HBO package on Dish, very, very close, but when Dish reduces the price to like 6 bucks a month, then that is a much better deal.

Enjoy it while you can. The lowest common denominator always wins in the end.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

I never watched Home Improvement so if it's a cc I am unaware.

In Home Improvement, he had three boys who were all something like 6-10 years old when the show started. His new show he has daughters, and their ages have been pushed up a bit to correspond with his own age, if I understand the premise correctly.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

The shows are similar...Home Improvement was better but i enjoy Last Man Standing. Mindless entertainment is very helpful :)
