TV: Give Me That Remote!

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

I just watched the show Ascension, a six-episode miniseries about people sent on a secret spaceship mission to populate another solar system during the Kennedy administration. It's fairly pedestrian, and it must have been on a non-premium cable network, based upon the few as- shots they showed. The people on the ship have a small amount of contact with a control group back on Earth.

The funny thing that I took from it is that there were signs the show was made in Minnesota. A 555-xxxx number came up and it had a 612 area code, and then a few MN license plates popped up. In the final episode there's a shot of the downtown Minneapolis skyline, taken from the northern shore of the Mississippi, a part of the shore where I'll take lunchtime walks during the summer. Honestly, that might be the most entertaining part of the whole show for me.

I wish that show had sold more episodes. I thought it had potential to be very subversive.

I thought it had potential, but the wooden acting coming from so many of the men on the ship kind of sunk much of my ability to get into the story. There was clearly commentary on early 60's culture and how different the world is now, but then they started pushing the fantasy angle that completely sidelined the murder mystery story they'd setup in the first episode.

I agree. They did not need the Russian doll conspiracy. It was a perfectly interesting premise to play it straight.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Anyone else check out Good Girls Revolt? The wife and I watched it over the last three nights, we thought it was great and are really confused how Amazon could have canceled it already...

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

So I am finishing up Season 4 of Veep (I was sick and out of stuff to watch so I gave it another chance and binged) and holy crap the election night episode ****ed near predicted the Election. Hell they even had Nate Silver getting things completely wrong

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

I didn't realize that S3 of Star Talk had already started. Time to get caught up with NdGT!

Has anyone been watching Chance with Huge Laurie? I'm thinking about give it a shot (I purposely avoided the obvious pun here so don't use it :)).

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

My girlfriend started it...she said it is super dark. I plan to start it in a few weeks.

Yeah, they did nail it. I still think that show is the funniest show on TV.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Hugh Laurie's new show, Chance, is supposed to be very dark. It's a Hulu original show. They have a few shows starting up that look like they have that intense, dark vibe. Come to think of it, all of the shows that they start seem to take on that darker aspects of whatever subject they're covering, including their comedies. This does not include shows they inherited from network TV.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Started the new Netflix series the OA. Really good- better than Stranger Things I think
