If it's in the movie they show it uncut. I think you can do anything you want on basic cable.

Correct, basic cable channels are held back only by their desire to not have cable companies' customers request that particular channel be removed from their list of offerings.

Correct. It's a pay service. Comedy Central often showed midnight movies uncut (like the South Park movie). They police themselves, to avoid ANY possible control from the FCC. Now, the FCC controlling something you voluntarily pay for is ludicrous, but possible. However, why take chances?
And as far as nudity, the MPAA and general consensus bars nudity amongst minors (think: teens) unless it's done in "an artistic manner." Yeah, THAT'S not open for debate. There was a recent movie that had the woman from the new "True Grit" (forget her name) that reminded everyone of that little "rule."

Well, Jessica will be a key character in THE DEFENDERS, which will be in the 2nd half of 2017. At least you got that to look forward to. Unfortunately NETFLIX is having issues with all the Marvel series piling on top of each other.
I was curious to see how this angle plays out. Since each character is their own chapter in a larger story, we're stuck sitting through chapters that we're not necessarily interested in to get to what you want. Even at 3 seasons/year, NETFLIX will have 18 months or so between individual seasons for a character.

FCC control mostly comes in the form of Parental Control ratings. For example, the season premiere of Mr. Robot had a few extra f-words slip through. Consequently, that's been the only episode so far rated TV-MA as opposed to TV-14, and the caliber of advertiser for the TV-MA episode was a lot lower than what the show would normally get.

Speaking of Mr. Robot, it continues as one of the best shows on TV. It gets more and more deep, multlayered, and interesting -- enough so it may be the first show I actually buy and rewatch once it's over.
Preacher season finale next week. It's batsh-t crazy and wonderful. Along with The Night Of another solid A show.
We are truly in the golden age of television. Whodathunkit?
Also: UnReal has gone far too dark, Bachelorette is stumbling towards the end, Bachelors in Paradise brings back Chad next week with what appears to be a confrontation with Chris Harrison (I would like to see Chad gut him like a fish, then take off into the mountains of Borneo and live like Rambo for decades, only emerging to kidnap women and grant interviews with Katie Couric), and Dating Naked has really benefited from the format change and has had some memorable characters -- the old guy should have his own show.

The ratings system is voluntary, created to curtail the threat of government intervention when won't-someone-please-think-of-the-children crowd got their panties in a bunch back in the 90s(?).

I've not read the book series, nor have I watched the TV show. The only thing I know about it is that the fan-boy crowd for the book series were getting mad because they had to tame down the show's content from its source material.
Neither did I.
I've enjoyed two comics: Watchmen and Constantine. I'm starting to think I may need to pick up a third.

Different media, different audience, different purpose. It took me ten years to watch The Princess Bride because I "knew" they would ruin it. Is it as brilliant as the book? Of course not -- in fact it had to jettison the entire point of the book to play as a mass movie. But for what it was, the story within the story (which itself is a story within a story), it was delightful, and I'm sure it has gotten thousands to read the book and thus immeasurably enrich their lives.
(Plus, Elwes, Patinkin, Shawn, Andre, Savage, Falk, and Cook are cast perfectly. Even if Kane and Crystal are horrible and Sarandon and Wright didn't understand their characters at all.)
It is funny, though. For what other adaptation can one say, "the four most important characters in the book do not appear in the movie"?

Series following East Mississippi CC juco football, and focuses on a number of players, the coach, and an academic advisor that's really just a babysitter making sure they at least do the minimum to stay eligible for D1 schools.
Only two episodes in and every second has been enjoyable. Not sure if they're just following this season or if it will be yearly, but

EP4 of The Night Of. It's amazing what proper writing, producing, directing and acting can do for a show or movie. The Night Of is so subtle in its presentation, but there are no ghosts in the closet, shouting matches between combatants or knife wielding killers behind the door, and yet I find myself on the edge of my seat of every spoken word. Turturro and his affliction, the family's grief, the cell mate with the fallen niece, the lawyers negotiations, Nas in the courtroom and dealing with Freddie, etc., etc. If they can maintain it, for me personally it will rival Season 1 of Broadchurch as the most compelling mini-series I've ever seen.
