TV: Give Me That Remote!

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Or, a 20/20 hindsight conclusion the results justify the means? I think we should be careful with that.

Especially considering that among the docs he leaked, were ones that included details on foreign intelligence gathering, and had nothing to do with the NSA's domestic spying programs.

Snowden is no hero, he is as flawed of an individual as the rest of us.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

I'll take that collateral damage. It more than justified the means.

It would have taken hundreds of years for him to parse those documents. He did it right.

Odd. I think "collateral damage" is how some described the Chinese slaves who were made to build the railroads across the U.S., a decision that fueled the development of the U.S. economy as we know it. Snowden engaged in significant violation of law. He should be applauded for the light he shed on inappropriate government behavior, as he spends substantial time in prison. There are legal methods of whistleblowing.

I 100% stand by my previous statements. The man is a hero and we'll never come around as a nation to understand this.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

That's exactly right, it was amazingly boring. I have no idea how it made it through the first 2 seasons without Barnabas. It also started getting a little more absurd and "break the 4th wall" with him. They knew at that point they were a cult show, not a mainline show.

Just checked out the show on IMDB, and Barnabas didn't make an appearance until 200+ episodes in. Show was on the air for almost a year before he showed up. Now I really can't believe how it ever lasted that long.

IMHO it's not simple enough for a white hat / black hat bestowal. There are good reasons for classification laws; there are also important issues about civil liberties (and even security) when USG agencies are bad actors.

This is another episode of the classic Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? problem, and those are messy and shaded. Our ostensible protectors get up to some truly skeezy sh-t from time to time, and there has to be a way to rein them in. It will have to be case by case, I'm afraid, unless we can actually ensure proper institutional oversight. Not everything can be public, but secrecy invites abuse. It is a tight rope walk.

Preacher. Pilot. What in the actual f-ck was that? My god, I loved it, but it was "the Coen Brothers go to Circus, Circus and do acid," or as HST once wrote, this is what the whole world would be doing Saturday night if the Nazis had won the war.

I pray to god or whatever they don't start tying things up too quickly, because the sense of drowning in plot-less maple syrup is wonderful.

Third oldest US hockey trophy(the Stanley Cup counts as ours now). Allan Cup and Memorial Cup--and I would assumed various others--in Canada are all older. Even Australia has an older hockey trophy.

Hold on there Sparky. You can claim Lord Stanley's mug as yours when there's more Americans than Canadians in the NHL! :p ;)

Besides, Auston Matthews will help my Leafs bring it back home next season.......oh, wait.....never mind! :D

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Come back when one of the teams from your entire country even makes the playoffs. :p

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

All the Way, the LBJ TV movie about passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Every bit as good as you would hope with Cranston and Langella. The acting by all the principal players was superb, and they did the impossible: they made a compelling, dramatic film about the bureaucratic minutia of getting a bill through committee and then whipping the cloture votes. Solid A.

I loved that movie! Watching LBJ play both sides, seeing how crazy the Dixiecrats were and how paranoid everyone involved was was pretty awesome. Bradley Whitford was amazing as Humphrey :)

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Halfway through season 2 of Catastrophe on Amazon, might be the best comedy I've seen in a while. Can lead to some slightly uncomfortable moments watching with your spouse, as they say some things out loud that I think most married people think but would never actually say. Every now and then I get a look from my wife wondering if I think about her that way. Been a while since I watched season 1 so don't have the best recollection of it, but season 2 is definitely a home run.
