TV: Give Me That Remote!

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Builder episode. There weren't any truly fantastic things happening, other than ending up in the reconditioning room. You know that will come into play within Westworld itself sooner or later.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Finished up S3 of Sherlock (yes I was late to the party) and I can't say enough good things about the writing, directing, acting, cast, etc. I was already a fan of Cumberbatch and Freeman and now even more so. And the ensemble characters are portrayed nearly flawlessly including Mycroft, Lestrade, Moriarty, Mary, etc. I want more and fortunately S4 will come out sometime next year.

Also watched S1E1 of Gomorrah which is an Italian made show about life in the Mafia somewhat done in the vein of The Wire in its portrayal of the participants per Wiki anyway. Haven't got to E2 yet but hoping it will be as good as the opener and be enough to continue.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

This week's Atlanta was super-weird, and it was a little frustrating to get another bottle episode instead of moving the story forward, but it was good enough to make up for that.

The trans-racial stuff was killer.

"When did you first know?"

"I think I've always known. Like I would go to the store or movies and I'd be like, 'Why am I not getting the respect I deserve?' And then one day it hit me.......I'm white and 35 years old"

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Following a conversation at work today, the old Seinfeld line from the episode when Kramer was trying to act as Mr. Moviefone (Moviephone?), "Why don't you just tell me the name of the movie you'd like to see?" the youth today wouldn't really understand that joke. It just came to me as an instance where technology killed an old joke since automated phone systems have speech recognition now.

The majority of Seinfeld plots wouldn't work if they had cell phones.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

No, you won't. I really enjoyed it.

Not at all. You may have a few eye rolls over the "look at us not being patronizing!!!!" (which is of course itself patronizing), but overall they're doing fine so far.

It's a national network show so it's going to be kinda stupid and the "great strides in gender issues" it thinks it's making are things the thinking portion of the country had already settled circa 1987. But one of the signs of social progress is when even TV gets dragged over the finish line. And heck, it still hasn't happened with race, so we should be grateful. ;)

Watched it and liked it (haven't watched last week's yet, though). But if she ever hooks up with the catcher, I'm out.

I hope they avoid that. I think they are laying it on thick up front so the "twist" is they don't. Like you, any hint of that and I peace out.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Westworld Ep 3. Answered some questions but created even more. I'm officially hooked.

btw the theme song is brilliant. It starts out menacing and brooding, then it transitions as the piano turns center stage and the mood of the song turns slightly upbeat giving the slightest hint of hope, yet by the end it takes another turn finally to suggest, “Sorry, no one gets out unscathed”. Perfectly fits the show.

I've reached the conclusion that I would have preferred binge watching this series than going week to week. But, three weeks later it's too late now.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

No way. You can't binge watch a show like that. At least I couldn't. You need time to process what happened and think about the philosophical questions they're asking.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

Laverne Cox simply a misses on playing Frank 'N' Furter - a Scientist.

And The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Fox is otherwise just a shot-for-shot remake with only small changes from the original. Boring.

Re: TV: Give Me That Remote!

I'll never understand your Seinfeld hate. I'm assuming you hate Curb, too.

Curb is meh. Larry David is good in small quantities.

My Seinfeld hate comes from having twenty guys in my high school who looked, sounded and acted exactly like Jerry, believing themselves to be comedic geniuses. For a Long Islander the show is the equivalent of "you might be a redneck." What was funny the first twenty times is torture by the thousandth. I'm sure for the plebes west of Bayonne it was hysterical.
