Re: TV: A Succession of Watchmen in The Good Place

Been watching this thing on Starz called The Dublin Murders. Has a kind of season 1/season 3 True Detective vibe to it.

So far, its just been kind of ok. Good, but nothing super special, a little slow moving. The accents and colloquilisms make it a little tough to understand at times.

But episode 7, man that was intense. The scenes with Cassie in the old manor house are just spell-binding.

I agree. I've been watching that as well.

The finale of Mr. Robot was decent...not great but not bad...just decent.

I thought it was better than decent, but it did seem that there were a couple plot lines that were either abandoned or just created to try to throw people off that I would have liked to have seen come to a conclusion.

It looks like all the hints were there in season 1. Just spitballing, but I'm assuming that's so if Esmail got word it was going to be canceled he could throw together a finale episode to fit everything together.

The reason I say decent is I kind of figured out the "twist" earlier this season. Esmail was sort of tipping his hand a bit with some of the things being done with Mr. Robot and the random other personalities. Not to mention if you look at the way the relationship between how Mr. Robot/Elliot deals with people in the real world it is kind of all there to be seen. For example, he would be able to flip mid sentence with no issues, the fact that they could talk to each other without one of them talking out loud. The big one though is they would talk to say Darla, one would be standing in one spot the other standing in another and she would acknowledge whoever was talking to her no matter where they stood. Weird stuff like that might have been mistakes but it still kind of showed where they were going. Plus this season Elliot wore the same clothes like THE WHOLE TIME rain or shine. He almost seemed detached from the world which also was a big reason I wasnt really that shocked by how they did it.

The hints are definitely there (the montage showed you the big ones) and I might go back and rewatch the first two seasons to see but I would quit after that. Esmail spent too much time trying to be clever and meta and not enough time really hashing out the long term storylines and why they matter. The Deus Group storyline should have been the main storyline for the last two seasons. As it was it took all of like an episode and a half for them to totally destroy them and rob them blind...wow some big bad boogeyman which is less time we spent dealing with the stupid drug dealer. And there was no consequence...I mean if you steal billions from the richest people in the world, the top 1% of the top 1%, they are not going to just sit on their hands even if they are broke. But no Elliot is just sitting in the hospital with Darla at the end dealing with his issues and no one seems to be bothering them. He is even registered under his name (according to the tag on his wrist IIRC) so it isnt like the DOJ (Trump was in the Deus Group they made sure to show us that) or any of the ripped off rich thugs couldnt find him.

I did like that to keep the real Elliot from coming back they thrust the personality into a time loop that would make him so happy he would never want to leave. When they made it seem like Elliot was thrust into a new reality where life was perfect it was ridiculous. If White Rose's plan had worked then that gives her a legitimacy and that would have ruined that character and really the whole story. She cannot be right, she needs to be evil or what is the point? If she killed everyone but its ok cause she just created a new world where everything is better than she was right and F Society were wrong. There is no justifications, they just have Elliot save the day and go into full on personality conflict.

Like I said it was decent, glad I watched it and it did pay off most of the stories but I feel because they were so late to even introduce some of them it felt like a sprint to the finish line. They should have skipped the drug dealer fiasco and just focused on what Elliot and Darla were doing. It would have paced out much better and been a much better final season.

This has been on my to watch list.

It was kinda like that first season of The Wire, where the first 9 episodes were all establishing, setting the parts in place, deliberate. It got a lot of criticism from some people for being too slow, nothing really happening.

And then, that 10th episode, and you're watching and going, ohmyfreakingod, is this really happening? Everything just explodes all at once, and you realize you're watching something special being done.

Maybe not to that extent here, but as I said, the scenes with Cassie in the manor house were riveting. Every time they cut away, I'm going, quick, get back to the house. It was brilliant.

Hopefully, the final episode is just as good.

Re: TV: A Succession of Watchmen in The Good Place

Saw this. Dammit.

Watching "The Mandalorian", I'm more convinced than ever that the Yoda species aren't born but Force created. Maybe there can be only one or two of them at a time.

As I have said, I know nothing of the side stories/etc. I only know the movies. But man, this theory would be epic.

Mandalorian delivered tonight.

Those first few minutes...CLASSIC!

Re: TV: A Succession of Watchmen in The Good Place

Haven't watched that episode yet, but it's a great series.

We finished S2 of Stranger Things. Aside from E7 which we all agreed sucked, it was very good and look forward to starting S3.

2.07 is the Great Anomaly. Don't worry, it's all forgotten.

Re: TV: A Succession of Watchmen in The Good Place

Season 2 of ST was a slog...except for Bob Newby SUPERHERO!!

S3 made up for it.
