TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

I'm really liking Silicon Valley. They are doing a great job of setting up characters playing of each other.

Really? I have watched the first couple episodes and I just dont get it. I find none of the characters funny and honestly there is 2 or 3 I want to punch in the face because they are so ****ed annoying. I have no idea what I am supposed to think about the show because the show seems to have zero identity...

Like the scene in the second episode where the hairy douchy guy takes a bunch of shrooms and trips out...even that wasnt funny it just seemed like a way to occupy his character so he didnt say anything that wasnt funny but was supposed to be funny. He is like a low rent Seth Rogan without any charm or likability.

The characters remind me of developers I work with. Many of them seem to be somewhat quirky and socially awkward. Especially when we have the late night installs and you can hear a small bit of their worlds when they're using speakerphones during the conference call. Also, the show is sort of reminding me a bit of the first two or three seasons of the Big Bang Theory, before they all started getting girls.

Thats probably the same reason I like, it because it reminds me alot of some of the people I knew in college.

Big Bang Theory was never this awkward because it was written by guys who have been writing comedies for decades. (which is why many real nerds dont like it) The characters had some depth...this is like a reality show where everyone has Asbergers and none of them have any redeeming value. The one "normal" guy is so douchy I kinda wish someone would curbstomp him so I dont have to listen to him speak.

So the guy who brought us Beavis & Butthead, King of the Hill and Office Space hasn't been writing comedies for decades?

No but there is a reason why Big Bang is a massive hit (as is pretty much everything Lorre/Bill Prady has done since the early 90s) and well Mike Judge really hasnt done a whole lot since the 90s. The Beavis and Butthead revival didnt last long and honestly I never found King of the Hill that funny. Mike Judge seems more "cult" than mainstream funny.

I dont think this show will last very long because it has almost zero appeal to the average viewer. I mean no offense, but if the people who like it are programmers and their friends that is not exactly a great target demographic. ;)

Yeah, how could a TV show make any profit by targeting an audience with a higher than average annual income. :p

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Is Don Draper taking a leap out the window the most telegraphed ending in TV history?

I did like Olbermann's idea: Don falls out the window and hits Betty on the sidewalk. A happy ending after all...

This average viewer likes it. And I have no idea how his shroom trip isn't funny when you find out where it actually happened and what he did.

Because the guy isnt funny and the writing was stupid?

Hey I am glad you guys like it I just for the life of me cant figure out why.

And what do people's incomes have to do with this...the show has no advertising it is on HBO! People on Welfare have HBO :p

How does that old saying go, "If the majority of people who watch it like it, then perhaps the problem isn't with the show..." :D

One would think that the more people with a high income that like the show, the more likely HBO is to get subscribers. I guess I didn't know our welfar system was so generous, though. BUT THAT'S A TOPIC FOR ANOTHER THREAD.

Crisis and Revolution? Well, that clears some space in the DVR.

And I see the curse of Geoff Stults continues. The guy is the modern day Nathan Filion of 10 years ago.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

I haven't watched Mad Men past season 3 or 4, but I'm guessing that there is a little more twist than what you guys are saying. Maybe someone throws him off, or he throws someone else off the building.
