Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Okay, so I'm only following himym through reviews an not watching it, so there's a very good chance I'm missing something critical. But I read this from an AV Club recap:

When Robin runs into her mother (played by Tracey Ullman) in the hallway, it’s a reunion that reveals how much Robin does care about her wedding day, despite her dismissal of her mother’s absence on many occasions in the past few days. But when the Mother asks rhetorically what mother would miss her daughter’s wedding, Ted chokes up. Something has happened to interrupt the perfect picture of children and parents we saw in last week’s flashforward, perhaps.

...and I immediately assumed that Ted's mother would die in next week's episode.

That is much more probable than what some seem to think. Thinking back, you never hear Ted call her "Grandma" when he is telling the story.

This has been a very good season, it is well worth the watch.

As for the Blacklist...great episode (gotta love Diane Weist) and the ending finally put that back and forth drama to rest. Also, every time I see Jolene I cant get her character from House of Cards out of my mind :)

Alan Sepinwall had a good take on why it was the mother and not Ted's mom/Robin:

There are multiple clues pointing very strongly towards Cristin Milioti's character being ill: 1)She tells Ted she's worried about him getting lost in his own stories, suggesting she won't be around to help pull him out. 2)When the gang observes that this day may be the last one they spend together for a long time, Ted in the future begins talking about how you deal with something like that, and the Mother finishes the sentence for him, suggesting you just don't talk about it and enjoy the time you have. 3)When the Mother suggests that no mom would voluntarily miss her daughter's (daughter's, not child's) wedding, Ted begins to cry, and the Mother does not apologize as if she has made a faux pas by bringing up a bad thing that happened to him in the past. It's something that's happening to her right now.

Also there was the thing last season where he imagined telling her he wished he met her then, because he wanted an extra 45 days with her. Granted they could be trying to fool us, but it'd require some creative backtracking on their part.

If this show doesn't have a happy ending I'm going to be quite upset. With all this build up, how could they do that and end the series on such a downer? I wondered about that too but hoped there was some other point they were making.

I took it to mean that Ted's mom skipped their wedding...

I did too but there is lots of speculation about something bad happening. I really hope they don't go down that road since this is the whole point of the series is to finally get the mother involved in the story.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

I haven't watched How I Met Your Mother for about 3 seasons, I got bored with it. But I have a question from someone that is out of the loop....it seems you are all discussing the possibility of them killing off the mother. If shes's killed off....how did she pop out 2 kids?

They have random flash forwards this season where Ted and the mother are reminiscing about the past. They're talking about the mother dying off in the indeterminate present, not right after he meets her.

Yeah they are both much older at the point of the conversation...

*Allegedly dying off.
Want to hold out hope that it won't actually happen. I wasted 9 years of tv viewing if that happens.

the kids seem awfully happy, not depressed at all if this story telling is happening while the mosby family is going through the loss of the mother...

I don't know that I'd call it "wasted" viewing. Was the time spent watching Breaking Bad wasted because Walt dies at the end?

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

I don't know that I'd call them happy...more annoyed. :p

Well, they start off as being interested in the story, but then they figure it out long before the audience ever does that the story is going to be drawn out over far too many seasons. :D

Breaking Bad, it made sense, given the subject matter. It doesn't make sense for a comedy to kill off the title character at the end.

The breaking bad ending was a little more plausible so it wasn't that difficult to accept, was it? If that happens with HIMYM, I'd put it on the same lines as Lost. Maybe the Sopranos? Just felt cheated at the end because it just didn't seem right. I can't believe I'm about to say this... but it should be more like Star Wars III. They answered every question I had with that one, even if some were lame throw ins at the end. It wrapped it all up pretty well and moderately satisfying..

At the end of Breaking Bad, Walt was supposed to die. I mean, we all pretty much knew that was the end game from the start, right? We found out he had terminal cancer in episode 1. Breaking Bad wasn't so much how it ended for Walt (death) it was the ****ed up path he took to get there. The death part was inevitable the whole time, in my opinion. Even if they would have changed it, and he didn't die in that last episode, we all knew he wasn't long for life after that.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

I'm not saying I'll be happy if she dies, but the title is "How I Met Your Mother," not "How Your Mother And I Lived Happily Ever After". I don't see that ending being inconsistent with the general idea of the series up to this point.
