tUMD Season Thread: B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S!

Re: tUMD Season Thread: B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S!

Thought I'd give this a bump.

2-1-2 through 5 games. Not sure what to think of this team, the have great potential but I don't think they've played fully to that yet. The power play is a major concern and it needs to get better. Funny how that was a strength for years no matter how bad we were, now its turrible.

Any other thoughts?

Going to be a tough weekend against UML>

Re: tUMD Season Thread: B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S!

I was wondering if you guys had a thread going. At least a couple of us will be flying out for the games and we probably have some alum in the area. Looking forward to the visit.

We're coming off a weekend series where we got smothered in a pair of 1-1 ties and hoping we can break free a bit out there.

We do, obviously it's not posted in much. We have a few lurkers but that's about it.

Let me know if you need food suggestions or things to do.

Food suggestions in places with a large craft beer selection would be wonderful. We'll be driving in Thurs evening after flying into MSP.

Fitgers is just the place for that but it's a little bit outside walking distance from the arena.. I always recommend Pizza Luce for dinner one night and Uncle Louis Cafe for breakfast. Duluth Grill is a good lunch spot or if you want some quality fish go to Northern Waters Smokehaus.

Bent Paddle is a great local brewery but they don't serve food at their location. I'm guessing you could get it at most bars.

Re: tUMD Season Thread: B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S!

Oh and Thirsty Pagan in Superior has pretty good beer and amazing pizza. You're in luck because Duluth has a ton of craft beer.

Re: tUMD Season Thread: B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S!

I can't make the trip this weekend but was hoping to watch the games on NCHC.TV link. Does anyone know how good the video is and if it's worth the price?

Perfect! Thanks! :)

Video is worst in the NCHC, they have HD cameras but it's broadcasted in SD. You'll have trouble seeing the score and time on the feed. Puck will be tough to see at times. That being said you'll always have video and they're are rarely problems with nchc.tv (which is opposite of it's competitors). It's worth the price if you just want to see the games (and you can enjoy our homers!) and don't expect to have a quality HD feed.

The Duluth section of the NSIC Eating Guide from the D2Football.com board

BTrulen8 Lake Superior Grill
BTrulen8 Cliffside at VaBene
BTrulen8 If you wan't great Pizza, go to Pizza Luce.
riverskater breakfast the local favorite for biggest and best at a reasonable price is Uncle Loui's
HumRsky The best burgers I've had are still from the Anchor Bar on Tower Ave. in Superior.
HumRsky Northern Waters Smokehaus in Canal Park is also fantastic and has sandwiches featuring smoked fish and other meats
HumRsky the Duluth Grill just off the freeway at 27th Ave West. Banana cream pie is expensive ($7), but the best I've ever had
HumRsky Sara's Table/Chester Creek Cafe (One establishment), but I've heard nothing but good things and it is close to campus.
HumRsky close to campus is Bulldog Pizza for pizza, burgers, and gyros,
HumRsky Bixby's Cafe for bagels, bagel sandwiches and coffee drinks.
HumRsky My favorite Mexican place in town in Mexico Lindo, and I think the Cloquet location is better than the Fitger's Complex (Duluth) location
HumRsky I also really like Burrito Union
HumRsky the Fitger's Brewhouse in said complex has great food and microbrews.
HumRsky Dubhlinn is another good brew pub, with more of a bar atmosphere.
HumRsky Grandma's is very popular and the Wild Rice Chicken Tetrazinni is outstanding
HumRsky If you're going on a trip up the shore, I recommend the Rustic Inn in Castle Danger, better food and pies than the more famous Betty's Pies.
HumRsky My favorite Chinese in town in the China Inn in Superior.
HumRsky As for pizza in Duluth, a lot of people are partial to Sammy's, particularly the West Duluth and Downtown locations.
HumRsky My wife's favorite is VIP (Vintage Italian Pizza), which has a location near UMD.
HumRsky I went to the Thirsty Pagen in Superior for the first time last February and I think that might be my favorite in town.
HumRsky Scenic Cafe on the North Shore Scenic Drive between Duluth and Two Harbors. It's a little more upscale
HumRsky Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives has returned filming has been confirmed at Gannucci's Italian Market (Duluth)
HumRsky Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives has returned filming has been confirmed at Shorty's Pizza & Smoked Meats (Superior)
HumRsky Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives has returned filming has been confirmed at Kounty Quarthouse (South Range) I can confirm that it is fantastic .
Psycho Superior WI: Gronk's - Burgers are awesome, also not terribly expensive.
Psycho Superior WI: Breakwater - Next door to Gronk's. Several will probably disagree with me on this, but I love it there. Cheese curds are the best ever.
Psycho Vanilla Bean in Two Harbors - Cafe style, not expensive, and great non-Sysco truck food!
Psycho Blackwoods love it in Two Harbors. Duluth's has a much better view, but it seems like the prices are easily 2-3x more than the one in Two Harbors.
Psycho Little Angie's, Mexico Lindo, and Northern Waters are all good.
Psycho Also from Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives - Duluth Grill. 3rd best Pasties I've had anywhere in all of the Lake Superior / Northwoods region.

Re: tUMD Season Thread: B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S!

I need to get a pasty at Duluth Grill. That needs to happen ASAP.

Re: tUMD Season Thread: B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S!

You're welcome, please let me know what you think of Duluth and those suggestions after the trip.
Will do. We'd already decided to stay at the Fitger's Inn, so that recommendation for beer is perfect. Have a couple at the end of the night and then stagger to the elevator....

Gathering all the recommendations and printing them out for us to peruse when we're looking for something to do.

Well that's perfect!

Make sure you walk the Lakewalk and check out the Lift Bridge! If you time it out right and look up when ships come and go you might catch one entering or leaving the harbor.
It's all right outside your backdoor at Fitgers.

Re: tUMD Season Thread: B-U-L-L-D-O-G-S!

Well thank you everyone. We had a nice stay here, I hope to be back the next time we play up here. We had back tomorrow, travelling most of the day, and back to work on Monday morning. (Boo)

Sounds like you had a great weekend, what was your favorite thing you did? Favorite place you ate at?

For Friday night, you don't need to:

Nebraska Public Television is showing the Friday night game, statewide (Nebraska, obviously), on NET.

That means, live streaming, freebie, on their web site, too:

As good a stream as you'll ever see. Enjoy.

Look for my good buddy Dan who will be making the trip with his girlfriend. He and I were out there last time. I'll visit UNO another year.

Is that who was with you the the night you were the NCHC fan of the week here in Omaha in the pictures I saw from that?

I'm going to be very, very interested in how much UMD gear I see this weekend. Against Air Force it was easily under 25 people--both nights.

I bet I am surprised as to how much of it there is. Even though the games are both "sold out" (crowds of 7,898 will be announced both nights) there is a definite secondary market where tickets can be had. Just ask Euro, who got his hands on 4 tickets for the Saturday night Air Force games here for 52 bucks--total.

We made a point of going to AmSoil in 2011 because it was new as did a lot of our fans. I bet a bunch of Bulldog fans feel likewise.

FYI, Bulldog Burgers didn't make it here in Omaha. It closed last December.
