tUMD at WMU - Hello future conference foe!

Re: tUMD at WMU - Hello future conference foe!

Scattered empty seats in a 6700 seat arena is a little different than a 3600 seat arena for a game which they've been promoting the heck out of for awhile. Not impressed. Their team deserves better... good squad.
Good point. The Lunatics were very good. Reminds me of my days in the Penalty Box.

Lunatics seemed alright, but man did they fold late. Couldn't believe how that place quieted down and emptied out with 5 minutes left in a 2 goal game. Pretty even game. Western looks to have a bright future and is capable of taking a game tomorrow. Hope the good run can continue into next weekend.

Re: tUMD at WMU - Hello future conference foe!

Why are you so interested in this game Ohioan? :)
I can be honest and admit my motive is selfish as a UMD loss or two along with an OSU sweep this weekend and I could possibly see Ohio State in 1st place for the first time in their 48 year hockey program lifespan. You guys have been there along with a National Title and it would be nice to see it once in my life as I certainly don't have another 48 years to wait. lol! :D It's quite the change to see us #1 in the PairWise & other power rankings even if it doesn't mean anything until mid-March.
I made the ref comment as I've seen more than a few games in the CCHA get stunk up by them and was afraid it was starting to happen in this game. Just ask a Miami fan about the officiating in our last weekend of playing against each other before the break.

You're welcome for Steve Rohlik. We miss him :(

Re: tUMD at WMU - Hello future conference foe!

My hope is that WMU gives them all they want and more while UMD wins a couple of tough squeakers so they arrive emotionally drained for their date(s) in Omaha the following weekend.

UMD is going to have to play in front of a tidy gathering of 16,680 on Friday the 13th in Omaha. They best not be looking ahead.

The tUMD- Menstruating Cows series will be a good one. But this is a tUMD-WMU thread troll.

Ahhh, well you'll get that ranking sometime this half of the season. We won't finish the season with this unbeaten streak. Being #1 in the PWR now is a good sign. There are a lot of games to be played, but your team is set up for a great chance of making the dance.

Sigh :(

Can we have him back?

Re: tUMD at WMU - Hello future conference foe!

And some empty seats as well...not that we should be talking...

Not to explain them all away, but we've got an odd habit of people liking to stand along the top of the sections instead of sitting. Last night, they were two deep in places. Hell, I did it for most of my first two years out of college because I was used to standing during all games. Tickets "sold" were a dozen short of sellout. Tonight the # of tickets sold will be higher, but I wouldn't be shocked if there are more no-shows with the rarity of a Lions playoff game on an hour after start.

According to Murray there were 30-40 scouts in attendance. All (both) our players are belong to NHL?

beersong- I imagine getting in included us making agreements to improve Lawson in some ways, and there's actually interest from boosters to do so now that the school appears to be taking the sport seriously. And frankly, we probably got in because the National overplayed its hand and thought Notre Dame was a gimme to join. Your new arena meant you didn't have to spend 3 months crapping yourself about your future. :p

Is it a state holiday when the Lions make the playoffs? Not that anyone in the state of Michigan is actually employed...

Re: tUMD at WMU - Hello future conference foe!

Is Western planning a new arena on campus?

And Tech's arena is NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tDECC was a dump.
When you think about the barns a lot of WCHA teams used to play in, when the Duluth Arena opened in the late '60s it must have seemed like a palace. While it is dumpy and obsolete as a WCHA arena now, it is still larger and more comfortable than a lot D1 arenas.

Not happening :)

Our third period play is killer. Team just knows how to ice the game. I think we are outscoring teams 28 to 10 in the 3rd. UMD keeps rolling. Gonna extend our ranking, unbeaten streak (16, unbeaten road streak (haven't lost since last Feb 25th) and ....

Anytime ceiling tiles fall on your head during a game, and the toilets overflow every night and a sizeable number of your "seats" are folding chairs, you are playing in a dump. But yes, it probably was a palace in the 60s. Amazing what 40 years will do to an arena.

Which is why, in a later post, I bowed out because the thread started to get outside the parameters of the topic at-hand. I didn't want Biddco's thread to get hijacked. UNO/UMD needs it's own thread.

I will take the DECC over several current WCHA rinks just for the fact the have seats with backs and arms a full 360 degrees around the rink bowl. Those folding chair at the DECC were added for capacity, but permanent seats surround the rink. Any rink with a wall and no seating on an end looks tacky. SCCC, Mansucko and Tech rinks come to mind. And I noted Lawson had the bleacher with back seating...high school grade.

Re: tUMD at WMU - Hello future conference foe!

Don't get me wrong, I love(d) tDECC, it's just not NCHC material, and neither is Lawson.
