Neither do the donors that provided the funds for the 2006 renovations.

I just hope that Murray and the new donor(s) have a bigger set and more $$$ than the group behind the downtown plan.

I'll settle for the bigger set, because I'm not sure about managing the "more $$$" part of it given some of the names that occasionally get connected to the Arena.

Yeeeeaaaah. I'm hoping that at least one of those downtown arena folks made the giant donation to the medical school and is running short of mad money. I freely admit to having an emotional and therefore at times irrational connection to staying at Lawson, but I really, really don't like the way that group does things.

Well that's just super, Biddy and I thank you for that tidbit of information. It doesn't really answer my question though. Did "Old Hickory" Faulkner sell tickets to his retirement home Bridge Club?

My sources have confirmed that he DID sell his tickets to that retirement home Bridge Club.

FWIW, that ticket counter on the special web site UNO set up for the Friday the 13th game that you are obviously looking at has not been updated since last Thursday morning.

Pardon me, the updated it with the retirement home bridge club's allotment. 5800.

tUMD hasn't played in almost a month. They haven't lost a game since mid-October. I don't have anything else to say. Go Bulldogs.

Chase Balisy and Dane Walters get the most talk of the forwards. Danny DeKeyser's getting mentioned on TSN as a possible free agent signing this coming offseason on the D.

If Frank Slubowski starts, he's pretty solid for a freshman but occasionally seems to have mental lapses right after a goal and a few times, it's turned into 2 in 3 minutes or 3 in 5, that sort of thing. The other maddening thing is that they don't close well. I've mentioned on the WMU board that they might be "The best 55 minute team in the nation this year." They've probably given away 5-6 points this year that way (and god knows how many last year), including SCSU's go ahead goal last Friday with 3 minute left. It's not a big roster, especially at forward.

Tim Allen must not be a very loyal alumnus. Over the years I've seen him wear a lot of U of M stuff but never anything Western Michigan.

I'm excited for UMD to come to Kalamazoo!

Both games should be close to being standing room only - my guess is around 500-700 students tonight and hopefully all 1,100 student tickets will be taken Satruday. If you haven't seen a game in Lawson yet, it's a pretty special atmosphere. I wouldn't be surprised if CBS turns down the crowd microphones a bit, if you catch my drift.

Don't know much about UMD, other than you took down the skunkbears (which is always a plus!) in the NCAA's and your team looked like a bunch a fruitcakes with their bleach blonde hair.

I'm predicting a 2 goal win for Duluth and a 1 goal win for WMU - not smart enough to pick which night.

Let's play some hockey!

These announcers are making it sound like if Western wins it will be like the Miracle on Ice. Cripes they're ranked #8 in the country and are at home. Sheesh.

You wonder if that is because they are hyping it up and giving the game some drama. They seemed to talking about rankings like a college football standpoint. It's not a dump its ...intament. The DECC wasn't the nicest place ever. They are supposed to be working on remodeling the arena.

So happy to get a win on the road and in non-conference play. Unbelievable that this team now has the longest unbeaten streak in school history. That is fantastic. Western played us tough for sure. They seemed to have a full rink press as it were. Chasing every UMD player with the puck and aggressively. Kenny continues to play well. He made some great saves that kept us in the game for sure.

tDECC was a dump. No way tUMD gets in tNCHC without Amsoil Arena, but somehow WMU gets in with Lawson. Beating the traffic with 5 minutes left in a two goal game was a real head-shaker as well.

Good, closely contested game. Should be another tight one tomorrow.

Scattered empty seats in a 6700 seat arena is a little different than a 3600 seat arena for a game which they've been promoting the heck out of for awhile. Not impressed. Their team deserves better... good squad.
