Re: Tuesday - the calm before the storm

Fitchburg State and New England College are scoreless after one period.

Solid defense/goaltending on both ends, with both Bobby Vorse and Aaron Harvey coming up with some nice saves. The arena scoreboard has the SOG as 12-9 NEC, but the LiveStats has 15-5 NEC  (by the way, I believe the scoreboard).

Also, Elmira leads Fredonia 1-0 through one period.

Re: Tuesday - the calm before the storm

Fitchburg State leads New England College 1-0 through two periods.

Billy Pescosolido scored his fifth of the season at 3:11. It was a slap shot from the blue line through a crowd. It might have been deflected as well.

Again, LiveStats and the arena disagree on the shot totals. LiveStats says 34-15 NEC, and the arena scoreboard says 24-14 NEC. I would think it's about 31-16 NEC. Point is, NEC is putting a lot of shots on Fitchburg, and the goalie (Bobby Vorse) is stopping them. Same thing happened last year.

Each team is 0/1 on the Power Play. Fitchburg State starts the third period with a 1:04 PP.

Re: Tuesday - the calm before the storm

Elmira:2
Fredonia:0

End of two.

Jesper Strale had a 5-minute hitting from behind major and a 10-minute game misconduct.

Re: Tuesday - the calm before the storm

Fredonia's Matt Hehr scored to cut the lead to 2-1 and then Elmira's Karl Linden answers with his second of the game to give EC a two-goal lead again just 40 seconds apart.

3-1 Elmira.

Four minutes left.

Re: Tuesday - the calm before the storm

Elmira:3
Fredonia:1

Final.

Good win for Elmira in what could have been a dangerous game. The Blue Devils just knocked off Hobart.

Karl Linden continues his outstanding season with two goals for EC and Consorti with the other one for EC.

Hehr had the lone goal for Fredonia.

McDonald had 27 saves for Elmira and Fredonia's goalie had 24.

Elmira improves to 8-5-3. Big game at Geneseo this weekend.

Re: Tuesday - the calm before the storm

<strike>Fitchburg State and New England College are tied 2-2 at the end of regulation.</strike>
New England College beats Fitchburg State 3-2 in OT.

Kevin McCready scored for the Falcons 24 seconds into the period on the PP. Got a break on the left side and sniped it past Aaron Harvey.

Kyle Kozlosky scored his first of the season about a minute later. Put in a rebound after Bobby Vorse lunged across the goalmouth to make a save. No chance for Vorse to get back and make the save.

A couple minutes later, Vorse made a save at the top of the crease and was run into by a Pilgrim. It was accidental, but Vorse had to leave the game. Bobby Leiser came in to replace Vorse, who finished with 37 saves (according to Live Stats).

With about five minutes left, Niko Uola tied the game for NEC. Leiser lunged to poke check the puck away, but wasn't able to. He was down when Uola deposited the puck into the empty net.

NEC had most of the chances in the last five minutes of the game and in overtime, and had a lot of sustained pressure in the last thirty seconds of overtime. The Falcons couldn't clear the puck, and Jared Mullen was able to one-time the puck past Leiser with 3.7 seconds left.

New England College improves to 5-6-1, and will take on Norwich at home on Friday night. Fitchburg State falls to 9-4 (2-2 in OT, and 6-1 in non-conference play), and will go on the road to <strike>take out their frustrations on</strike> take on Framingham State on Saturday.

I couldn't tell you. I was guessing that he was fighting an injury when he was scratched for the UMB and Becker games. The Pilgrim who ran in to him was trying to make a play on the puck and probably didn't expect Vorse to come out as far as he did. Vorse needed help from the trainers to the locker room, so if he was fighting an injury before, then that isn't a good sign. However, considering how well he was playing tonight, I doubt he was.
