Re: Trump First Term I: I for One Welcome Our New Trumpy Overlord

Unconfirmed rumors are that he's also considering Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) for an undisclosed post. Kepler's favorite!

They're probably just rumors, but I got a chuckle when seeing the name listed.

I laughed when I saw it.

She wanted Secretary of Defense. You do you, Tulsi.

A little off-message to pick even a token Democrat, but Putin wants what he wants, so what can you do?

Re: Trump First Term I: I for One Welcome Our New Trumpy Overlord

Current list of policies Trump advocated during the campaign that he's now walked back:

Hillary for Prison
Global Warming is a Hoax
Repeal Obamacare
Drain the Swamp
Make Mexico Pay for It
Rip Up the Iran Nuclear Deal
and now...

Torture, Torture, Torture!

next up: Protecting Medicare

LOL. Suckers.

More on that front, the alt-right are mad that he's not being as extreme as they hoped: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/alt-right-members-fooled-trump-disavowal-article-1.2884744

This is actually a good thing, and what my Trumpy friends have been telling, since June, that he would do once getting elected. I still don't understand it completely, never having had an ounce of trust in him, but there was a saying that summed it up: his supporters took him seriously but not literally, his enemies took him literally but not seriously. As long as he continues to moderate his positions and if (BIG IF) he governs sanely, you and I are the suckers for completely misunderstanding everything about this election. It hurts to admit, I know, but if that happens I will be much happier to admit I was wrong that the alternative of dealing with Trump the tyrant.

The reporting is misleading. This is actually an Obama-appointed judge who has overruled a number of his executive orders already. The repubs would have rolled it back, surely, but they didn't have to because it's already been ruled unconstitutional.
In fact, Trump isn't even officially in office yet until sometime in January.

I'm not going to complain if Trump just turns out to be a garden variety grifter whose only motivation is to cut his personal tax liability. That is after all what a majority of Republicans have always believed in, albeit they used the bribed representative model rather than DIY.

All I want for Christmas is for Trump to nominate a pro-choice SCOTUS justice. To watch the right's remaining brains exploding out of their skulls would almost compensate for the immiseration of the middle class he's about to unleash.

Just wish he had been filling his staff with moderates. For the SCOTUS, the best I could hope for is a legalist like Roberts than an ideologue.

It seems as likely as not, depending on who he talks to that day before randomly picking someone, and maybe how much his hemorrhoids are acting up? Who knows?

Re: Trump First Term I: I for One Welcome Our New Trumpy Overlord

He probably will forget to ask and just nominate whoever has the more tremendous sounding name :D

As any North Korean will tell you, a tyrant's inconsistency is disconcerting.

Suckers.

If the nominee is a strict constructionalist who believes that what is not explicitly given to the Feds belongs to the States, sure.

The only way abortion changes is if public opinion changes. The divide will exist long after I'm buried in the ground.

I have a feeling that Trump, being in way over his head, has Jared Kushner (or Kushner's mortal enemy, Steve Bannon) whispering in his ear all day to explain what he is and isn't allowed to do as the POTUS. The beast is un-muzzled at 3 a.m. on Twitter.

You think that's actually going to stop any of these bedwetters from whining and looking for coloring books in their safe spaces?

As I've said before, my money is on the abortion debate being over in a decade. As soon as we have the science for a completely non-invasive morning (or week) after pill that middle class women can take at home, abortion will become OBE except for the poor, political support will collapse, and the "Pro Life" movement will win.

That will be a very bad day for Republican fundraising and GOTV.

Aren't you just describing the "Morning After Pill" Some Plan-B pills can be taken up to 72 hours after coitus and still be effective (don't know the percent effectiveness).

I believe you on the tech/science side; however, both sides of politics need the issue to demonize* their opposition.

*"demonize" is also commonly spelled as "fund raise against". It's all about the Benjamins.

It needs to be perfect and it needs to cover a longer interval.

I was debating whether to pair it with a pill or shot for 100% male birth control, as well. As a male 16-36 I would have walked the length of the Cornell campus naked during a January blizzard for that.

Once we are living in a world in which women are 100% certain they won't be abused as unwilling Alien hosts and men are 100% certain they won't be entrapped by a "one night costs you 18 years" entrepreneur, the current debate is going to completely fall apart. The emotional partial birth nonsense will be irrelevant, and the hard core rump of the anti-choice community will be exposed as thumper misogynists whose puerile dualism masks their hung up hatred of sexuality.

Mais par course. But in this case one side is saying "do what you want with your body," and the other side are totalitarian fanatics. Let's say my magic book tells me purple hair is evil. One side is saying, "fine, don't dye your hair purple." The other side is saying, "NOBODY may dye their hair purple, and we will imprison hair stylists who do purple dye jobs."

On the one hand, it's an interesting cognitive disorder that we should have some patience with.

On the other hand, f-ck them. Their ancient Jewish superhero slash fiction is not going to control the lives of the adults in the room.

We'll have to rely on European scientists to come up with it. Science is dead in this country.
