Interesting. But it may not work out that way. An inherent strength of the right is their focus on competition, that is the ability to 'not play nice' and even slander. Then this carries over to perception of liberals on various issues for +50% of the population. See the hippies, Bill Clinton, etc. I'm just not sure the extent that the alt-right will be tied to the GOP to the same extent. The left is not about straight up competition but rather problem solving.
When liberalism got into bed with the hippy dippies in the early 70s they de-legitimized the left for 30 years. The same thing is happening now with conservatives and the alt-right. If they're not careful they're going to wake up to a world where the entire American electorate outside of their base associates conservative dogma with Trump's personal characteristics and the Breitbart brand of cut throat reaction.
