Trump First Term I: I for One Welcome Our New Trumpy Overlord

Re: Trump First Term I: I for One Welcome Our New Trumpy Overlord

I'm curious. Is there a good reason to not have protections that I'm not thinking about? Because I don't want to be blinded by horrific crimes and not see something that is also important.

Take the sexual predators that have been held unconstitutionally in Minnesota for years. These are the worst of the worst but they were having their rights violated. Rapists, pedophiles, and sexual predators still have rights and I want to make sure these kinds of laws don't trample them.

With regards to rape and he punishment MN's penal system/mental health system has placed upon these men, I think you're off in terms of the application here. If a convicted rapist is the father of the child, forcing payments of child support for 18 years, and a loss of parental rights is an 18-year punishment. Unlike what they're doing with indefinite incarceration, this has a finite period of time and a form of restitution involved, too. After the child is 18 years old, there's nothing that can stop either the child or the father from having contact without one side or the other, the child by then a legal adult, taking out a restraining order. And that party would have to show cause, if I understand such things correctly (debatable), though I have no idea how high that threshold would be.

One of the mechanisms of real democracy is the vote allows the people to replace their representatives if they don't like them. That's what this election did. In that regard, for those people, it's a success. It may have disastrous consequences because the guy who now gets that power is a narcissist with the mind and impulse control of a four-year old, and the party which gains by this is a cynical parasite that doesn't care if it destroys its host. But the election itself was exactly what the Founders designed: revolution without a drop of blood spilled.

Look around the world and that's still kinda a miracle.

I don't know if I'm tracking correctly, but don't think I line up for this. I think the election was actually not a model success for the US and possibly an outlier in that.

The US didn't have a tyranny of the majority, but worse, a tyranny of the minority - which flew in the face of actual for the people representative government. The closer we are to 100% representation the better, the closer to 1% the worse...and we're closer to 1% than we've been. As many experts have agreed, it was influenced by illegal activities by Russia - not exactly an ally. Not only that but the outcome was comprehensive. Its senate, house as well as the presidency. And it appears to be extreme. I think one could argue that between expanded number of 'tea party' reps and Trump's initial team, the general stance of that government is heading for a particularly poorly experienced, right wing, and non conciliatory brand. I think even if the FF's acknowledged that a popularly elected president was better...they would not be pleased at the outcome this cycle.

Reports are Trump has named former DoD Intelligence chief, Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn as his National Security Advisor.

If you look at wiki, the guy looks like a model candidate...for awhile. A diverse set of front line experience, information/strategy guru, leader and a life long Dem - boding well for a balanced approach. He has been a visionary...he wrote a critical but constructive evaluation of the intelligence community for lacking an understanding of the human-socio context of the battlefield in Afghanistan, and a vision for a future version of the DOD based on 'integration, interagency teamwork and innovation of the whole workforce, not just the technology but the people'

Then something he went off the tracks - in a manner similar to Trump himself. He turned into a seething, right wing, extreme politician.

Iowa is introducing the "Suck it up, Buttercup" bill. This will remove federal funding from the schools that use these funds to create "cry zones", give out play-doh and coloring books, and cancel classes for "hug time".

However, when I go to do some searches on it, the spin is real. It's targeted at the students, but the headlines want you to think it's about the protests...

There's some talk of David Petreaus getting Secretary of State. That's another name that I wouldn't mind having in the Cabinet. I'd prefer him as defense secretary with Romney as SoS. Two more rational and moderate politicians with real world experience.

And Mike Pompeo for CIA Director.

Tops in his West Point class, Harvard Law, founded and sold Thayer Aerospace, Conservative Tea Party Congressman from Kansas since 2010.

Reports are that Flynn, Jefferson Beauregard "Jeff" Sessions III, (what a name) and Pompeo have all accepted.

Re: Trump First Term I: I for One Welcome Our New Trumpy Overlord

Sessions offered AG

Great, the nimrod who wasnt sure what Trump described in his tape was sexual assault is going to be the head of the Justice Department? You just cant make it up...

And of course we should be seeing Sica and all the Hillary haters to not want Petraeus get the job since he plead guilty to mishandling classified information right? (that is more than they ever proved with Hillary he admitted it!) The fact that Trump put him up for office at all is just beyond hilarious. And no I dont like that nomination at all (or any post for him) because he resigned in disgrace.

"The cheaper the crook, the gaudier the patter."

But to be honest I like the silly names. Life in a delusional Gothic horror must be awful. Might as well add some glitter.

The man promised us the 50s, and he is delivering.

There was a guy from the Atlantic on Last Word last night and he said liberals should be careful about pressing that point about Petreaus. He said we should be thrilled that a moderate and intelligent person is being potentially nominated for a cabinet-level position.

I think I agree with him.

Jeebus. Can you mark that as not safe for life?

rotflmao

In the era of Black Lives Matter and Religious War the United States is going to off the AG job to a racist. The US is certainly a beacon to those yearning to be free.

Sorry but no. The GOP spent the last 2 years telling us Hillary wasnt fit because she MIGHT have mishandled classified material (which the FBI didnt even recommend charges for) whereas Petraeus actually DID mishandle classified material and admitted it and was forced to resign because of the affair in which he did it. (and only avoided jail because he cut a deal) The liberals should go at it full bore he is unfit at this point. If the Left lets this go then they are spineless losers. They cannot allow a guy to be SecState who will tell state secrets to anyone he bangs. (at least Hillary's screw up was because she is is just technologically stupid) They need to fight this tooth and nail...

Hell Trump should know Mitt is the better candidate.

If Sessions gets confirmed...good lord.

Re: Trump First Term I: I for One Welcome Our New Trumpy Overlord

True, but that IS what America voted for. There can be no doubt about that.

Yup. My favorite rumor is Sarah Palin for Sec of the Interior! If you voted Trump, or sat on your arse and didn't vote, this is what you elected. Deal with it I say!

Re: Trump First Term I: I for One Welcome Our New Trumpy Overlord

I didnt vote for him I voted for Hillary...why the hell should I have to deal with this? You and Scooby are wrong about this...
